Yes , I have tried Bare Metal Foil, which ended in a huge disaster for me . Will NOT be going down that road again . Also in the past I tried liquid mask and wasn't a fan of it . Will stick with the masking tape . Works the best for me . However , I have made progress on this and got her painted up . This is my worst paint job ever , the whole build actual and rather embarrassed on such a crappy job coming from my bench .

So , can you spot all the errors ? 50 points to the person who can find the cat hair !

Now now, it isn't a bad paint job. Looks good to me.

Sorry Fred , not even close . However on the other hand you are warm . It is on the underside .

I had paint lift when un-masking , paint bleed . Very ill fitting canopy resulting in a not so good putty job . I'm affaird to pull on the masking tape . Have a feeling that this go around yielded bad results .

It's hard to see all the issues you're referring to as the picture size is rather small, but I do see some. Your painting has always been top notch, so if this effort doesn't meet your expectations, why not just strip it and start over? You can also work on the canopy fit issues is that's still bothering you.

Having a cat, I know all to well about cat hairs. The hair in question is on the lower side of the starboard wing which is inverted, so it's on the left not the right. The hair is just to the left of the bomb rack about 1/3 down the cord of the wing.

Hi Joel , I did redo a few things ..others not so much . I just wanted it off the bench so I can move on to other projects .

I have made progress and the only thing left to do is a bit of pastel chalk weathering with a final sealant followed by pulling the masking off the canopy .

Will have the final build pics up tomorrow if everything goes well .

P.S. Joel , you just got yourself 50 points . You are correct on the cat hair . Which I left it there . Blau is a big part of my life so I look at it ..he wanted to contribute as well !

Best of luck on this. My build is held up for paint issues right now as well so I really sympathize, though I am not to your skill level.

Hello Russ , thank-you There is nothing wrong with your skill level . You have a uniqueness which no one else has . Really enjoy following your builds . You do really nice work . I read about your paint woes and hpe that you are able to get it playing right .

I'm calling this one done ! Finished it last night but I was lazy and didn't feel like posting the pic's . Not my best , but in the end not my worst either . Some of the weeknesses end up turning to a positive .

Nicely done. Makes for a fine display presentation. Decaling came out spot on perfect.

I also live with cat hairs as it's my wife's cat that never leaves me alone. And now that I'm retired as Friday was my last day, he's with me every min of the day I'm home.

My new painting procedures involves vac'ing the model room prior to painting. Gee, what fun that's going to be.

My new build is the Airfix 1/48 scale BOB Hawker Hurricane MkI. Made the intro and 1st update post earlier this afternoon.

Fantastic work Terri! I echo Joel's sentiments, and funnily enough your build has inspired me to build another Ki-61 also Hasegawa's offering. Kit has had the wings glued together but the price was to good to pass up. So it'll give you an opportunity to watch me bungle my way through it. LOL

Terri - looks good to me ! Sorry it faught you here and there but you got it finished !

Didnt turn out so bad after all! I also really like the scheme you picked with the red tail it over solid green. I guess with the Hinomaru monkey off your back, its time for more Mustangs?!

History usually seems to compare the Ki-61 directly to the 109, I always thought it looked eerily similar to the He-100

Great result of your Hien, Terri! I like that camo scheme and have built one in these colours also some time ago. Mine was flown by the remarkable Sgt. Masao Itagaki.

Mike, that's true what you said. The Ki-61 was "copied" from the He-100 and not from the Bf 109. They have only the engine in common, DB 601 and the Kawasaki licensed build Ha-40. That's why they are sometimes called "sisters by heart" - together with the Macchi C 202 Folgore, which had the same DB engine, built by Alfa Romeo.
