Jonathan, WOW! That is a good way to use material at hand.
Merlin, thanks for the kind words and maybe your idea is a future campaign.

Drabslab, how about we do it in sub assemblies. Just sent out a wing to one and the fuse to another and so on then maybe it could be built in a year by those assemblies being shipped back to you for the final touch.![]()
Nice try

Jonathan, another nice looking 1/144 a/c. What is your method for removing the excess plastic after cutting from the sheet?

Hi Jonathon
Nice job!
I've had a few days off work and have finally taken the opportunity to move my infamous "Stash" (it was in the basement which is a bit damp (and yep - a few items are definitely the worse for being stored there...
)).
So far, despite digging into most boxes as I've transferred them to the attic, I haven't found any of the vacuforms I'd had in mind to tackle if we get the go-ahead. Plenty of others - but most of them already started to check the overall fit of parts. Even the Koster "Nell" - and I don't remember doing that!
So... unless the Fw 58 or Do 217 turn up soon, I could buy something new. That'd be fun, if only to prove there is still a niche vacuform market out there.
But a part of me is definitely leaning towards the Koster 1:48 "Early B-17" conversion, which I've wanted to tackle for yonks. I bought Revell's B-17F in a sale to go with it a while back and it's a monster project that's been glaring at me from the "one day..." pile for several years now. This campaign could be just the push I need to take the plunge.
Depending on whether I've found the Weihe and Do 217 by the time we get going (hopefully as a full campaign), I might just offer a few options and ask for a vote on what to build.
All the best
Rowan

Hi Rowan, I can smell those damp cardboard boxes from here, I recently went though exactly that exercize. Fortunately polystyrene is impervous to moisture, but the decals were all lost.
with regard to a vacufirm kit that has been cut out but nothing stuck together yet, that might fit under the 25% started rule.

Hi Bob
Many thanks for the offer. There are certainly some temptations in the list, but I'm not short of subjects to tackle. Yes, you're right Jonathon, those trimmed-out, but unglued kits probably would fit within the rules - it's just that I've still got my heart set on the Weihe and Do 217 which I remember as being impressive kits. I'm sure they'll turn up as I continue to ferret through the Stash.
If nothing else, moving all the stuff was a wake-up call that I really do need to stop reviewing things endlessly and get back to building. There are just so many wonderful kits buried away - some of which I'd totally forgotten. Seeing them again, I was just as inspired as the day I bought them, so I'm itching to spend more time at the workbench once I've got the house sorted out a bit better.
Thanks again and all the best
Rowan

This Air Craft Models vacuform kit is looking like becoming an excellent model. It has gone together flawlessly.

Looks good Jonathan, I saw the photos of the spars for those wings. How long were they?

the wing spar extends about 1 1/2" past the joint into each wing.

Jonathan, pardon my ignorance but what prototype is that big four engine flying boat? Something British I think.
(I have a severe weakness for anything amphibious!)

I think he said Martin Mars. You may be thinking of the Short S23-- which was huge and the predecessor to the Sunderland. The Martin Mars was almost twice as large though.

Martin Mars is correct.

See the Flying Boats campaign.
oh and, I think I have a Sunderland kit somewhere!

Hi again
I'm officially ready to go!
Digging through the packing cases I rescued from the basement last week, I found the three MPM vacuforms I had in mind:
Looking inside, I see I did a little preparation work on both the Do 217 and Fw 58C years ago. But the Fw 58B with the clear nose and dorsal gun position is untouched, so that's what I'll go for if we get the go ahead.
All the best

Thanks for the quick reply - Yes, I remember now seeing a news article on the two remaining Mars flying boats doing fire service and freight haulage in the northwest.

Rowan, those are all great subjects. I would have trouble deciding which to go with also.
Jonathan, your Mars looks great. I usually have my problem in the sanding of the plastic thickness, but after that it is fun to make the parts and have a finished a/c.
