I think your plan B should be the A instead
Much easier to paint and weather those louvres without using decal covering that area i’d say.

Keep it up, it’s coming along nicely. Hope it turns as good as your other Eduard German fighter.

Yes - I came to the same conclusion on the bus to work today!

Great looking build Rowan. The pit and wheel wells look especially nice, I also like the overall paint scheme. It is good to hear that the fit is tight on this kit. I have built two of Eduard's previous versions of the Würger and they took some fiddling to get some of the kit parts aligned properly.

yes - building this new kit is a very different experience to Eduard's original '190.

I did a little bit more yesterday:





I'm going for a variation of Eduard's Scheme A - Siegried's Schnell's machine. The kit depicts the aircraft after the occupation of Vichy France, with white identification stripes painted over. I'm going to leave them fresh and modify the rudder kills to back-date them to the time of the operation.

I'll add some black again around the exhausts and tackle a few minor tasks before gloss-coating and leaving everything to cure ahead doing the decals.

Ticking off the little jobs, I've painted the trim tabs:



and laid in a bit of black over the louvres:



In fact, as this is a Review Build, I think I'd better use the decals as intended - I can't really review them properly if I don't give them a chance. I did a test with a spare decal on an old kit and it seems to be snuggling down nicely with some Gunze Sangyo decal solution, so fingers crossed it all works on the real build.

I'll let everything cure for a while and then start spraying coats of Klear.

Sorry for the lull - I'm still spraying coats of Klear and letting them cure. I think I'm probably just about done, so I'll give it a day and see how it polishes up. Then it'll be decals time.

After Joel's mention of all the stencils he's doing on his lovely Hellcat, I'm glad I don't have so many on the '190! But I will apply pretty much all of them, because (apart from the white bands) Schnell's aircraft seems to have been in standard factory finish with little or no field over-painting at this stage.

Well, I clearly needn't have worried about the decals, because they are snuggling down beautifully with some Mr Mark Softener - even over the dreaded louvres:



Note: this is after an hour or so and, judging by the first decals which I applied (the underwing crosses), I can expect it to tighten up still more as it dries fully.

The only slight criticism I'd have to make is that I found a couple of small "bleeds" on a couple of items. Nothing major, and they should be easy to correct. In terms of how well they go on, though, the decals are among the best I've ever used.

I sure needed to catch up on your build. The camo painting is just outstanding. You certainly haven't lost your touch.

As for the decaling, they sure look like you painted the markings on. Although I'm some what surprised that you opted for Mr. Marks decal solutions as I use them for only the toughest of decals. My usual procedure is to use Solvaset after the Micro system but the Eduard decals just didn't need it.

Many thanks for your encouragement. I've just got home after an evening out and I couldn't resist going to check what the decals were doing. I've got to say I'm amazed at how the eagles have turned out - they've tightened up some more beautifully. If I hadn't applied them myself, I wouldn't have believed the result!

These were items where I was fully prepared to say you really need to use painting masks - in fact, I was planning to say it was a shame Eduard didn't include masks in the kit - but the decals work superbly well.

@ Joel - I'm very haphazard in how I use decal setting solutions - it's normally a case of whichever is within reach and diluting it if needs be. I've got some Solvaset somewhere for real "problem cases", but I find Mr Mark is a good general purpose option.

It'll be a long day at work tomorrow, but I might get a chance to add a few stencil decals in the evening before going out - we'll see.

Rowan, that "Abgasadler" - in english it would be called something like "exhaust fumes eagle" - looks perfect. Very well done! Is it one piece ot two?
I'm always anxious when it comes to this on a "190", that's why I usually look for a different decal option or airbrush the tail of the eagle, like I did on my 190 A-8 some time ago, which was a lot of masking work ....

@ Mike - yes, as much as I like the other schemes, it really had to be this one if I was going to give the decals the ultimate test for the review.

I'm afraid I haven't got any more progress pics to post. I got called into work unexpectedly on what should have been my day off so I've slipped a bit off the schedule I'd set for myself. But I've now got all the stencil decals on, so I hope to get back underway.

..Beautiful work Rowan ..and kudos to Eduard. Those decals are the biz. I'm just finishing off one of their (relatively) new 72nd scale 190s ..and the decals worked just as well over those louvred areas in the smaller scale!

Many thanks for you kind words. Andy's also built the 1:72 kit and told me how good it is - on the basis of his experience with it, he predicted I'd have a blast with its big brother.

I've got the day off work tomorrow, so I hope to get stuck in. The model's had a coat of Klear over the decals, so I'll do a bit of light weathering. The undercarriage and smaller sub-assemblies are pretty much ready, so it might even all get finished by the beginning of next week... It'll be nice to see out the year with a finished build for a change.

Just a quick update. As ever, I was a bit over-optimistic in hoping to have the model finished by the beginning of this week - but it is pottering along steadily.

This evening saw a little milestone passed safely - it's up on its legs for the first time:



The undercarriage is only test-fitted (as are the prop and windscreen) to make sure it'll attach without any problems. I've added brake-lines, and I will weather it lightly before fitting it for real.

The way the wingwalk stencil's caught the light looks like it may be a spot of silvering which I hadn't noticed, so I'll check that...

Anyway, my revised target is to finish next weekend.
