I am joining with another Corsair. An old school kit, but looks quite okay in detail and fit. Let’s see when I start cutting plastic.

Exactly, Peter. I was lucky to get a stash of these old kits a couple of years back.
It will be interesting to build this kit along side the royal class Eduard 1/48 hellcat. The passage of time will show I am sure. But the old kits are still very good builds. I hope to do it justice.

Otaki kit is a still very nice kit, may like the profile. I think the interior is the let down. True Details has a cheap fix or skip it as most won't see inside, your choice.

The cockpit will be closed so I will go with the kit details and what I can find in the spares box.
It will be an interesting contrast to the colored PE in the eduard kit.

Hi all, happy new year!
Im jumping aboard with a corsair, not too creative but its a good excuse to build one up and Ive got everything I need for a fun, dirty, worn old airframe.
Its Tamiyas 48 birdcage with Barracuda decals, the usual Ultracast seat, wheels, and exhaust, and some canopy masks to save my sanity. I may end up spraying the stars and roundels if the decals dont behave to my liking.

That Otaki is one of the few 1/48 kits in the stash. I'm looking forward to see how it builds up.
It's a Bent Wing Bird OK, but it's not my entry.
It's a glue bomb I picked up at a local Thrift shop. Someone had attempted to build it using a leaky glue pen. Testors 1/72 F4U-1, the decals were worth saving, but the rest isn't. They even managed to get the elevators in on the wrong side. I'm going to use it for a paint mule on some other projects.

Plastic has been cut. A nice kit so far. I decided to skip the kit supplied glue and stay with my trusty Tamiya glue. 😉😄😄

Still some places needing touch-up but upper and lower surfaces of the wing have paint. For the lower surface, I just used Tamiya XF-26 Light Blue.

My contribution will be this, the Delta. I've always thought that planes of this vintage, especially with large wheel spats, were really cool looking. I may do a build blog on this later

Hi all, work is slowly progressing on the Birdcage cockpit is wrapped up. Ultracast seat, kit dash with painted instruments hit with some micro krystal klear.
fuselage sides ready to slap together, going to take some careful sanding on the seam to keep the detail in front of the windscreen as this corsair didnt have the tape on all the panel lines up there, just lots of leaks and stains.
Hope everyones builds are going well

Why not cut off the entire nib, clean up the rocket and paint it on the nib? Then at the end, just cut off the nib and clean up the tail fins.

I would have trimmed the sprue gate away but left them together for cleaning and painting then cutoff at the nib and drill the end a little bit but your idea is good too.

I like the salmon color addition, what color did you use for that and the cockpit?
I havn't started mine. I think I might do a F6F-5P with the Haseagawa 1/72 kit.

good morning Ryan, the salmon is just a quick mix of MRP red and white, its not super visible and im going to give it a god grime wash so I wasn't too worried but thanks! For the dull dark green i went with tamiya xf-26, I may have lightened it a bit, cant recall now.

I have finished my cockpit as well for my Corsair. However, the detail level is a bit more vintage. I almost feel ashamed after your stunning cockpit, Eric.
I have added a few PE plates from the spares box although they will probably be invisble behind 3mm clear plastic.
The outside is a little bit more to date. So should still look great when finished assuming I get my paint work right.

The Corsair is taking shape. I decide to replace the kit supplied fuel tank with a bomb. I based this on a picture of the particular Corsair I am building.
I am sure the Corsair probably used both bomb and fual tank at diffrent times, but wanted to build it in a more aggressive load out that fits the high number of bomb mission markings on the side of the fuselage.

Jesper your office is looking good, the cockpits really do dissapear in these aircraft and Im sure yours is going to look the part very well. I think the bomb will be a great addition, have you thought about drilling the exhaust pipes out?
Wings are on, and bent! love these tamiya kits, had to fill the step in the starboard flap as it was a later addition but otherwise its smooth sailing.
