I have been working on the exhaust: attaching the resin Pfeife and the photo etched glare shield. The instructions for the glare shield I found a bit baffling. After two cups of tea studying the instructions I gave up and tried to figure them out myself. Hope they look correct. There are plastic alternative parts, but the shielding looks too thick in comparison to the PE parts. The PE parts do need folding. Also attached the undercarriage. No issues at all with those.

Don't the 'legs' of the shields lock into the notches in the end of the resin pipe part?

They do fit in the slots Jessie. I just put them in that way dry [well with a bit of help from a spot of blue tack] as they were less likely to fall out as I was test fitting them with the glare guards. There is an interesting bit of research on this aircraft and it shows how the pipe and cap were fitted. Eduard’s painting guides is usually a good source of information if there’s any doubts about how things fit, but in this case it’s ambiguous. It suggests the arms are very short. But looking at the photographic evidence that certainly isn’t the case. Even now the arms maybe a tad to long, but my sausage fingers will be doing more harm than good fiddling with them too much.




You can see how much research Eduard do and how closely the painting guide and decal placement follow the real thing. I just haven't placed a lot of the stencils as they are so small. But they are there if anyone wants to apply them.

Well I think I’m just about done with this build log. Really enjoyed it despite my frustration of not being able to do my first choice marking option [B]. It’s the first time I have done a duo build and I don’t think it takes that much more time to build two. But then this is a very good kit and doesn’t take that much effort to build. I have ordered a couple of brass pitot tubes as I broke the plastic ones. Thanks for looking in and for the feedback

This has been a great thread to follow Tim, and a good point of reference for anybody looking to build this kit.

These two completed builds will be a real highlight in amongst other, more traditional, Bf 109 schemes.

Thanks Damian and Jessie. Yes they turned out not bad at all. But they are easy enough to build and this makes them ideal for a duo build. Not sure I would like to tackle a something more challenging as a duo build though.
Its interesting doing a thread on the build, well any build really. Looking at the images I have taken is quite useful assessing the look of the build, rather than looking at the build itself. Problems seem to leap out on a image, but don't so much when the model is right in front of me

Yes, a very nice pair of 109s, Tim. I especially like how "Yellow 17" came out as it would be my first choice of all the options. Congrats on another fine dual combo build! 4 weeks is a good time for 2 builds. I usually need 6 for both if I don't have major interruptions like holidays.

Thanks Torsten Funny, No 17 is now my favorite. So I'm pleased I changed my mind about the marking option. Still find it odd they went to great lengths to obscure the white, but left the yellow 17 and the kill markings on the tail.

Equal amounts of pilot ego and administrative inertia. They needed some way to tell the aircraft apart...

I guess so....

Lightning fast compared to me, Tim: 4 weeks to complete 1, let alone 2 would be a record for me...

I'm lucky to complete just one in 4 months
