Hi Jean-Luc
I think you could legitimately ask the next question - it was your turn before Fred stepped in to fill the gap caused by your absence.

Hi Jean-Luc
I hope you enjoyed your pizza - what flavour was it?
I found a very interesting site about air racing history. According to the list there, the first Italian aircraft to hold the world air speed record was the Macchi M52 - 297.81mph on 4 Nov 1927.

Hi Jean-Luc
That pizza sounds good!
OK - a change of direction for the next question:
What was the first aircraft built (under licence) by Boulton Paul?
All the best

It was the RAF FE.2B in 1915 (hopefully the right spelling)

Hi all!
The FE.2B was the first plane flown (virtually) by Biggles, the famous hero created by Captain W.E. Johns... and believe it or not I have a 1/48 model of it in my stash! It's a multimedia kit made by Aeroclub... and a challenge even for rigging fanatics... I must have been crazy as I ordered this kit

The aircraft is the F4F Wildcat series.
As for the squadron my best guess is VF-4 which was changed to VF-41 before Operation Torch. The unit was later renamed VF-4 and participated in Operation Leader in Norway.
Brian
Congratulations Brian,
Spot on, both answers !
Merlin, Jean-Luc, hope I did not break protocal wih my question Let me know if "Tag, I'm it".

Hi Fred
Just the opposite - it was perfect timing that you stepped in when Jean-Luc had to be away for a few days.
We'll see if Gábor has a question and then I'll start a fresh thread at an opportune moment now we've got to page 11.
All the best

Here are my questions:
1. Who were the first Hungarian flyers to cross the Atlantic?
2. What type were they flying, and what was the name of their craft?
Good luck!

Hi again Gábor
Great question! - and, sorry, I forgot to say earlier... it's great to have you with us! I think I've found the answer - it's the first time I've ever gleaned info from a Hungarian web-page...
Capt. George Enders and Lt. Alexander Magyar flew a Lockheed Sirius named "Justice for Hungary".
All the best

Yes! So it was not really difficult.
Their names correctly:
Szds (captain) György Endresz
Hdgy (lieutenant) Sándor Magyar
Great! Your turn.

Hi Gábor
Not difficult? - Without the Internet, I'd have had no chance! It really is a wonderful research tool - and the beauty of this quiz for me is that it forces me to open my eyes to areas beyond my usual interests.
On that note, I'll close this thread and open Aircraft 'JEOPARDY' Trivia 4.
All the best
