Nice answer, but not it. I was expecting you to say Robin Lindsay, though.
Our subject went back to flying duties in 1943. Keep hunting
Oh, and bonus points if you can ID the carrier in the photo.

Hi again Mike
Not an answer to the last question, but going back to the infamous Red-X - I've had a look using Internet Explorer and I get the Red-X too. Under Firefox it's fine - a very nice picture of the mystery LSO. Why it works with one browser and not another is beyond me...

Okay, in the varicose vein that Dave and I are about to unleash :-) :-) , here's another Naval Aviator answer, so reply in the form of a question.
This Naval Aviator - No. 49 (not 5, sorry) - might have had some kinship with a song covered both by Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan.
BTW Dave - what years were you in Pensacola? I lived there in 1968-70 when my dad was stationed there. We lived in an old subdivided stone home about two or three blocks from the radio tower near the old fishing pier and the bridge to Gulf breeze and Fort Walton. The Firehouse Restaurant was going strong then too.

Hi Mike
A song covered by Hendrix and Dylan? Was it "All Along The Watchtower"? I'm not sure Dylan covered it (strictly speaking) - I think he wrote it.

Sehr Gut, Herr Merlin
You're right - Dylan did write All Along the Watchtower.
And for those wondering about the Watchtower reference - Operation Watchtower was the Guadalcanal operation, and Geiger commanded Marine aviation during it.
Bring on your worst Rowan - I enjoy those mini-strokes searching for obscure a/c

Hi Mike
Nah!... Would I do that!? :-) :-) Here's a nice easy "3-parter" instead!
A German plane held the world speed record for a piston-engined aircraft for just over 30 years:
1. What was the aircraft?
2. What was it's record-breaking speed?
3. Where are some parts of the a/c still stored?
All the best

Hi Guys,
My turn!
What USN fighter scored kills against all three Axis powers and against the British and French?
What USN unit scored air-to-air against all three Axis A.F.?

Hi Fred,
The aircraft is the F4F Wildcat series.
As for the squadron my best guess is VF-4 which was changed to VF-41 before Operation Torch. The unit was later renamed VF-4 and participated in Operation Leader in Norway.
