I'm wondering if my wingman is joining me...
Hi Peter
Beautiful build!
I'm literally just back from holiday so, once I've had a chance to get used to life in London again, I'll make a start on my n/m Bf 109.
All the best

Wow, great build Peter.
Your 109 turned out great. The camo scheme looks great, how did you find applying it? Any tips?
I haven't made very much progress on your opponent, but I am determined to get some bench time in soon. So hopefully I can give you an update shortly.
Nice of you to leave off the underwing cannons, that will aid me in defending against you.
Again, great build.

Hi Guys
I thought I would give you guys an update to where I am at with my build.
I finally found some bench time, and my "Fort" is almost ready for the paint shop.
Interior has been completed and assembled.
Front Office
Bomb Bay and Radio Room
Close-up of the radio room
A couple of shots of it closed up
I left the bombs off and will be putting them on the cart, not really sure if I will end up making a diarama out of this yet.
Hopefully this weekend I will get the majority of the painting done, so hopefully next week I can get it completed.
Cheers

Hi Ted!
Even as a model kit the B-17 looks like a monster of a plane! I'm looking forward to see it with wings and paintsheme!
And a diorama would be cool!

Hi Jean-Luc,
You are correct. It is massive.
I am not even sure that I have a place to put it once complete. But I am sure that I will find a place for it.
Hopefully I will have more to show after the weekend, they are predicting rain for the majority, so it would be a good time to get some work done on it.
Thanks for running such a great campain for us.
Cheers

Hi Ted
Superb effort so far. It's a shame to have to close it up and hide all that work
Jean-Luc is right, that looks massive..... maybe I should have fitted underwing cannons after all
Looking forward to seeing the wings on.
Cheers

Hi guys
Well I actually got some time over the weekend to get some workd done on your opponent Peter.
You guys asked to see it with its wings on, so here you go.
This is my first attempt at pre-shading, so go easy on me.
Peter.
I took a couple of shots with a 1/48 Bf-109 that I had on the shelf. I think that you made a mistake with not mounting your underwing cannons.
I think you will need Merlin, and possibly even more partners to bring this baby down.
I painted the primary colors on the weekend, but never had a chance to take any pics.
Next comes decals and mounting all the machine guns into her.
Watch out Peter.
Cheers,

I'm watching Ted, I'm watching ..... and I like what I see.
That 'Fort is looking fantastic, let's hope I can get you on the edge of your combat box formation so at least I have a chance ! Think I'll come in head on, the climb and have another go at you from above and behind.....you're right though, a wingman would be very handy !
I think your pre-shading looks like it will be very effective. If it's too heavy, it can take a lot to cover and doesn't look "natural". How did it turn out after you laid down the primary colors ?
Looking forward to seeing the next lot of pics.
Peter

Hi Peter,
Actually I don't think it was quite dark enough.
I sprayed the uderside with Tamiya Sky Grey, and it completely covered the pre-shading I had applied. The Olive drab on the upper surfaces covered it also. Back to the drawing board
I may try a pastel wash to try and highlight the panel lines, never tried it, but there has to be a first.
I spend some time this weekend and have the decals applied, no for a final shot of "Future", weathering, then the dull coat, and she will be ready for our duel. Hopefully I will get a chance to post some pic's in the next few days.
By the way, I thinking of the "tail end charlie" position for our duel, my gunners need the practice.

Hello Peter,
I have made some progress on your opponent over this past weekend, not as much as I would have liked, but some. Here are the pic's.
I still have to apply the exhaust staining, and try my hand at a pastel wash. Any suggestions for a newbe????????????
Here a couple of more shots.
All the help I could get for the wash would be appreciated. There are 2 coats of future on it at the moment, so I think I am pretty safe to give it a try.
Thanks

Lookin' great Ted
Can't help with the pastel wash as I've never used pastels for washes. I use either oils or enamels thinned with Humbrol enamel thinner. Give 10 minutes to harden then wipe over.
I'd be interested to hear how you'd do it with pastels (or pigments) as well
Cheers

Thanks Peter,
I never got a chance to do anything last night, but hopefully over the weekend I can get her done.
I will let you know how things worked out.

Nice one Ted!
It's looking great already - and the weathering should really tie it all together!
While you're busy finishing this weekend, I'm hoping to FINALLY make a start on something for your gunners to worry about.
All the best
Rowan

Hello Merlin,
Thanks for the kind words. Nice to hear from you.
I will be looking forward to seeing your 109.
I am sure that Peter will be grateful that you will be joining him in his quest to bring my baby down. My gunners will be waiting.
Cheers

Hi there Peter,
Well your opponent is ready to take to the skies with a full load of 500 lb bombs and 13- 50cal machine guns to defend herself against you.
I had a blast building her. Although far from perfect, I did learn somethings during this build.
Anyway, here are some pictures of her. I hope you like them.
It really came to life when I pulled all the masks off.

Hi Ted!
Wow! That's a nice clean, immaculate and fat... target! :-)
If this doesn't motivate the Bf 109 builders out there I don't know!
Anyway, that's a superb model! Thanks a lot for this "Duel" entry and Congratulations
Jean-Luc

I agree - Great job Ted
Mmmmm.... looking at all those guns.... I think I'm going to need my wingman.......or maybe I'll just close my eyes, push the throttle to the stops and come in all guns blazing
Thanks for the duel Ted, it's been great fun. I learnt loads of new things also. This was my first aircraft model for probably 30 years !!
Thanks again, and thanks to you Jean-Luc for managing the campaign
BTW, is there an "Official" Campaign thread ?
Cheers

Hi Peter!
Yes, there is one somewhere in the Campaign pages over at Armorama... but I think I will start a new one here at Aeroscale because it will be easier for participants to post here.
I'll do a new table in the next couple of days and as soon as I'm finished I'll start a new thread.

Wow Peter, your first in 30 years.............your skills far exceed mine.
You produced a great looking 109. It was great having a "duel" with you.
Jean-Luc, I have to thank you as well for this great campain, my second, and both with you as host...........................great job.................have you thought about your next? I will defintely be joining.
Thanks again

Hi Ted
That is a very impressive B-17! I LOVE it!
I was true to my word and made a start on my '109 while I was away and was all set to publish the first pics. But my Luftwaffe entry looks set to do an unexpected bit of "shape-shifting"! I won't give the game away, but your gunners could have a previously unseen kit in their sights... Cryptic? Yes... sorry, but you'll soon see why...

Hi all!
This seems to be very interesting! We even have a "Mysterious Plane" in the Duel Campaign!
Buck Danny would have loved it!

Hi Jean-Luc
Sadly, the "Mystery Ship" didn't arrive in time for me to get started this weekend, so I'll plough on with the '109 'till the postman calls!
I'll take some pics of where I've got to so far tomorrow.
All the best

I can't wait to see your mystery ship....................please post pic's.
My gunners will be looking forward to putting some nice holes in her.
I am sure that Peter is looking forward to your company in the skies in his attempt to bring my baby down.
Looking forward to you unveiling her.
