Hi All,
Thought I'd start a thread for our "Duel".
Participants are:
Grypho - building a Bf109G-6
Merlin - also building a G-6 (if he gets time ! - no matter, Klimmer will never see me coming !)
Klimmer - building a B-17G
Here is my Reich Defender
I have also made a start on the "office". An MDC resin cockpit:
Hey Klimmer - Beware the Hun in the sun !!

Hi Peter
Yikes! I feel thoroughly bounced into this one! :-)
That's a great start on the '109! The MDC cockpit looks a beauty!
If I do manage to get things together, it'll be 1/48 scale, and I'll be entering Oblt. Kurt Gabler's natural-metal beauty from Eagle Editions' superb JG 300 chronicle:

Great start Grypho. And fast. You'll be soaring while the B-17 is still on the production line. :-) Just curious, how long did it take you to do what you've done so far?

Thanks David
Didn't take long, around 6 hours I guess, over 4 days, including the time taken to make sure everything fit.
First resin cockpit I have attempted and I am very happy with the way it turned out. :-)
I do have an issue with it not fitting exactly as planned though........
Cheers

Great start Peter. Thanks for starting this thread for our "Duel"
Your skills are certainly apparent with that nice job on the front office.
I have done some work on your opponent, just haven't had a chance to take any pictures yet, and I am waiting to receive some masks, but here is a preview of what you will be looking for in the sky.
This is the actual aircraft that I will be modeling mine after. She flew 40 sorties until she was finally shot down on May 30th 1944.
Just remember to close and get out quick, otherwise my 50's will be hard to get away from.
Cheers
Ted
I will post some in-process pic's shortly.

Looking forward to seeing your in progress pictures. Were you able to get a decal for the nose art?

Howdy fellas,
Another great 'Duel' thread and another set of excellent choices. Also glad again to another large-scale entry....nice.
I must say Grypho, absolutely stunning work so far on your cockpit! Where did you get the proper colour references from? They look great.
And Merlin, will you be using AllClad for yours or?
And finally klimmer, what do you plan to do for the noseart on your fortress?
Tread.

Gordon / David.
I was able to get a decal sheet for this aircraft complete with nose art. I am at a stall in building, waiting for my painting masks for all the glass on this beast.............hopefully this week, then I can get on with it. I have the interior basically done. I will post pics shortly.
Cheers Ted

Hi Gordon,
Yes the decal sheet is 1/48th, I got it from Eagle Strike Productions.
Here is a shot of the sheet itself.
I am going to try and paste the link for the site as well.
I hope this works
http://www.eaglestrikeproductions.com/cgi-bin/esp2.pl
They have quite a good selection.
I hope this helps
Cheers Ted

Grypho / Merlin,
I thought I would give you guys an update as to where I stand in our duel. I have the majority of the interior painted and just recieved the masks for all the glass in this beast.
I have also painted and drybrushed the engines.
As well as the interior of the fuselage.
I haven't been spending all that much time on this due to the weather turning nice. This may take me a while to complete.
Cheers Ted

Nice Job Ted!
I'm afraid you're way ahead of me - but I do hope to make a start on my '109 in the near future.
It looks like your B-17 is going to be such a good-looking target, it'll almost be a shame to shoot at it! Nahhhh!
All the best

Nice work Ted, that's coming along a treat.
Are you going to use a wash on the interior to accent the ribbing ?
It's sure going to be a shame to shoot holes in all your hard work

Hi Ted!
Nice job on the interior of your Fortress!
Did you use any aftermarket set or scratchbuilded parts? Looks pretty detailed for an "old" kit... but sometimes an oldie is a goldie!

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the kind words guys.
Actually everything you see is OTB, like Jean-Luc said, an oldly, but a goody. I am not going to give the interior a wash, since only I would know that it is there after I close her up.
Merlin / Gypho, you might want to have a look at the amount of 50's a "Fort" carried, also the fact that they also flew in a "box" fornation for formation support. In this way more than one aircraft could hone in on an attacking aircraft.
You may have to come through a bunch of 50's before you even have a chance of putting even a hole into my "Fort"
Cheers Ted

Sorry for not picking this up earlier Peter.
You are way ahead of me, I have stalled in my build considering the weather has turned very nice and other projects have taken over my time.
Hopefully I will be able to get back to my bench shortly in order to continue your opponent.
Your 109 is looking very good, I can't wait to see her finished.
Cheers Ted

Hi All
Have made some more progress on my 109. :-)
RLM 76 (Vallejo MA046) is on, as is the RLM 75 AC2026).
I have been really impressed with the Aircraft Colors. It sprays beautifully straight out of the bottle. I thinned the Vallejo with their thinner which stops it drying on the tip, meaning fewer stops to clean the needle. I have sprayed the 75 through a Tamiya HG SF and the feathered edge I have acheived here is the best I have done yet.
Next step is the RLM 74. I'm going to use some Black Magic masks for the first time, so will be interesting to see how the camo turns out.
Cheers

Excellent work there Peter.
Your skills with an airbrush far exceed mine. The soft edges look stunning.
I still haven't had a chance to get back to my bench, so you are way ahead of me.
Again, great looking 109......................looking forward to seeing how the remainder of the camo comes out.
Cheers

OK Guys, my Gustav is off the assembly line and ready to be deployed
I'm wondering if my wingman is joining me and whether there'll be anything in the sky for me to shoot at
Here's my finished G-6.

Hi Peter!
That's a cool looking Bf 109 model! I hope I get my G-4 half as good! Did you use the kit decals for the crosses and the fuselage band or were they painted on?
It's too bad your plane wasn't fitted with the R6 underwing gun pods... but this will leave Klimmer's B-17 a small chance to escape! :-)
I have a request. Could you shoot a profile picture of your model (right side) so I can update the Campaign table? That would be nice of you!
Jean-Luc

Thanks David and Jean-Luc you're too kind !
Jean-Luc, I hope this profile will do ?
I painted the Reich Defence Band using Aircraft Colors RLM24, then masked it off and painted the rest of the camo. The decals are from EagleCals set EC#41.
In hindsight, I probably should have used the gun pods, given that I am trying to down a "Fort", but I just liked the simple look much better.
This was a really enjoyable build, I tried things I had never done before and am really pleased with the way it has turned out :-)
Thanks again Jean-Luc for a spectacularly great Campaign idea.
Now..... I have a Hasegawa Stuka or FW190 D9 if anyone wants to duel with them
Cheers
Griffo.
