Hi Steffen
I'm trying to crack on a bit because time's likely to get a bit tighter with the run-up to Aeroscale.
I've a bad reputation for leaving kits unfinished once I get distracted...

...but now you can give the sponge pieces to your girlfriend so she can finish to wash the dishes!
Hi Jean-Luc
Washing up!? Is THAT what the sponges are really meant for? No wonder I keep finding them under the sink...
- and well said Steffen - you're truly a Modern Man!
All the best

Good grief Rowan!
The factory is going great guns!
Really interesting watching the different techniques you employ coming together.
Looks like RSI was the nudge you needed to get you modelling again after all.Every cloud has a silver lining eh?

Cheers Steffen and Nige!
Yes - the bug's biting at the moment! :-) RSI or not, this one'll definitely be finished!
I was away over the weekend - hence the lack of updates - but the basic camo's on and I'm almost ready to start having fun weathering the beastie.
I've got a couple of days heavy video work ahead, so I hope to get back in business mid-week...
All the best

Hi there
As promised, a quick update on progress:
As you can see, the sponges are out from under the sink again! - the basic camo's on and the fuselage band is masked off. This has caused me much "umming and ahhing" - basically, the more I look at the one reference photo I've got of the aircraft, the more unsure I become about what on earth was going on with the paint job! :-)
Anyway, I've decided to go for a weathered white band, then partially overpainted with yellow. It's probably not the correct interpretation, but it's fun trying to guess these things and, anyway, it makes for an interesting scheme to apply.
I've been busy again with latex to simulate some wear and tear - and the first layer is still there under the white band (hence the lumpy texture). I'll apply more over the white and then paint the yellow.
It might be being overambitious, but I may even finish the I-16 this weekend or thereabouts...
All the best
Rowan

Hi Rowan!
Your I-16 looks good with some clothes :-)
But wow! Are you beginning to mutate?
From "I never finish a kit" to "I build one per month"!
Anyway, I'm looking forward to see the red stars this week-end.

Hi Rowan
here you have another Soviet beauty, looking great so far! Do I see another MoM winner .... or 2nd or 3rd ... depends on what the others will submit, e.g. Jean-Luc's Bugatti would be a sweet combattant (hint, hint
)
(BTW Jean-Luc here is another obscure a/c you could build:
Payen Pa.22/2 ... don't know when I build mine but it will be Luftwaffe)
Rowan, do not forget the exhausts !!!cheers

Hi Steffen!
It seems the designed some interesting planes for the "Coupe Deutsch de la Meurthe"
Too bad they never flew! :-)

Hi Jean-Luc
I find this a/c rather strange. Odd design but look at the newer designs (EF, Gripen, Viggen, Rafale) ... many similarities.
Even if the crate never flew in the all blue colour it was tested by Luftwaffe (Junkers) in France and found to be very unstable ... then improved with metal sheet at the rudder (which did not work) and then reworked with a normal cockpit and tail rudder. Somehow the fench team convinced the testing team to leave the plane in France (which speaks for low priority and small success) where it was destroyed by US or British bombers and not much of it survived. (see
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payen_Pa_22 for more details ... maybe the French wiki has even more)
cheers

Hi there
Well, I obviously didn't make my optimistic target for finishing last weekend. I made a little progress, but I'm at that "tying up loose ends" stage where you know you've done extra work but it doesn't seem to have moved things forward appreciably! :-)
Still - I made a start on something that will have Steffen breathing a sigh of relief - the exhausts!
I have to say, this was the only part of the build I've found tedious. As if cleaning up the individual pipes wasn't enough, I had to make life harder and decide to drill them all out!
What started with an enthusiastic "This won't take long" rapidly declined into a "How many of these ******* things are there!?" I think they are a definite improvement over the originals - but I'm just trying to convince my wonky hand of the fact! I wish we could include video files in posts - "How Many Times Can You Drop An Exhaust Pipe?" could be this year's hit movie! :-) :-)
All the best
Rowan

Hi Rowan!
I don't think Armorama would have enough storage space for such a video! :-)
The exhaust do look great though! it was worth the extra work...

I think this was one of those times when I remembered why used to find doing the wheels on tanks boring...
:-)
I suppose I should add for the benefit of anyone wondering about the significance of the clothes peg... they are my favourite "99p shop" painting mounts. A peg with a piece of double-sided tape or blue-tac on it makes an ideal way to secure a small part for spraying.
All the best

PS - Jean-Luc... true, I'd have to show the edited-down version, not the director's cut! :-)

Hi Steffen
This is getting beyond a joke - they can't just disappear! I know we live in a dangerous world, but WOW! do customs checks frustrate me sometimes!
PM your address: I'll send you the colours you need for your present build (so long as you don't mind used pots).

Paints are often considered dangerous goods therefore cannot be forwarded by air cargo only surface mail. Perhaps that is the problem. Don't you have a tracing number for your package? You could check where it is.

Many thanks for the hint, Gabor!
Unfortunately i do not have such ID (I cose the cheapest shipping method which is definitely surface mail) .... maybe my colours lie peacfully on the ground of the channel ...
I do not blaim anyone because I do not know where the mistake lies .... but I am p***** and that does not involve lots of
best wishes

Hi Steffen
Just to put your mind at rest:
The exhausts are all in now. I held them in place temporarilly with White-Tak while I checked they were all even and then fixed them with CA.
The decals are on and sealed, so there's half a chance I might get this finished tomorrow. I hope so, because the next couple weeks are looking pretty hectic at work, so modelling time will be a scarce commodity.

Hi again
Doh! So close! As you can see, I didn't quite make my weekend deadline!
There's not a lot to do... really just a matt-coat and then some pastels to complete the weathering - and then to attach the missing bits like the windscreen, of course! :-)
It'll be a relief to kill that ridiculous shine... way out of place for a weathered bird like this one...
Anyway, the revised "Big Plan" is to get it finished in the next day or so - after that, work looks likely to intervene so I won't get another chance to do any building for a while.
All the best
Rowan
