Greetings all;

Its official. Eduards 1/48 Limited Series Flyboys Nieuport 17 is out and available. SRP is $22.95 and no photoetch in this issue folks. The basic Eduard Nieuport 17 with A & B sprues from their kit #8033 Profipack kit. Also a clear plastic windscreen. As such the heads of the LeRhône rotary are not detailed but it is difficult to noticed under the full ring cowling. In the instructions there are several parts or portions that are blued out and "Not to be used."

Even though they tell or rather show you to delete the Lewis gun post for three of the profiles, they do show you the whole construction of the Lewis gun incase you want to do the assembly on your build "A" profile (Cassidy's machine N1723.) B scheme is the Blaine Rawlings machine N1653, Scheme C is N1074 and Scheme D is the William Jensen N1407.

Diary of a miniature stuntman...You'll laugh , you'll cry, you'll see it again just to see the parts you missed to first time around.

Hi Stephen

Hopefully, it had an Image Creative sticker on the package - if so, that's a FANTASTIC airmail delivery! Did you spot Eduard's News Item? - there's a couple more Flyboys kits due out in November.

All the best

My, my, my Stephen Your gentle flowing and lilting prose doth' make me desirith of the soothing sounds of my Bowed Psaltery.....prayeth your ear would be turned as well m' Lord

Ahem!......{clearing throat, and switching to my 20th Century voice }

Since I know you are checking this particular thread Stephen, I have a couple of questions for you. One is regarding "Flyboys", and the other...not {kinda}.
First, I noticed the cover art on the Eduard 'Flyboys' boxes depict the Neuports coloured in white. While in the film, I remember them being a mid to dark grey.....which is "correct"?
Second, {and this actually has something also to do with the Neuport} If one wanted to build the Neuport triplane,

could one use the base Neuport 17 kit? The aircraft looks like it used the standard Neuport lower wing, plus another lower wing in the mid position, and another lower wing {with extended flaps added} for the Upper wing.
So, Stephen.......whadaya think?
{why do I hear someone going..."Tsk, tsk...tsk"?

Tread.

Actually it was a dope carrier with an aluminum powder pigment. (Using Testors buffable aluminum and giving it a "dullcote" overspray.) Here ia a rare and very early image of an orginal Nieuport 17.

There were three Nieuport triplanes. The model you have posted is a replica of the example tested by the RFC. Yes, You could build one using the basic kit but the top wing needs to be reduced in chord by at least half. and you need an extra lower wing.

Howdy Stephen,

Many thx good Sir for your {as usual} informative reply

So, regarding the Nieuports, they aren't white persay they just appear white from the reflection of light on the fuselage, correct?
Your paint suggestions are appreciated.

To the Nieuport Tripe, your input regarding the upper wing afforded me a better way to recreate it. Originally my synapse-challenged mind was going to add to another lower wing, but now the better idea would be to remove from an upper wing.......{sometimes brain flatulance can be deadly}.
To better illustrate the upper wing appearance, here is another pic of the aircraft from a different angle

Here's a pic of approximately what I'm thinking. On the sprue below, a cut along the line indicated on the upper wing, rounding over of new leading edge, and filling in of existing small vertical slots in upper wing......give me your opinion please.

Tread.

EDIT: Darn!......now that I look at it, there's an obvious size difference in the flap.....sheeeesh!

How about this adjustment.........?

I extended the existing flaps forward towards the wings leading edge, and flattened out the leading edge cut {more in tune with the wings supposed eventual appearance}

Greetings All;

Yes Treadhead I think your getting the idea. You may find better images for reference in;
"Nieuport Fighters of WWI" by J.M.Bruce, Osprey, Vintage Warbirds #10, 1993.

On the original thread topic the Flyboys kit thanks to our miraculous Merlin, I have had my kit for several days. Very cool decal sheet definately the same plastic you would have gotten in the kit #8033 Profipack and the Esc.N.3 dual kit for the Nieuport 17.

Here is the one I am doing.

Here is the replica used for Cassidy's and Beagle's machine. The fuselage markings were changed of course. They used vinyl stick ons

In Middle Wallop airfield in Hampshire, (U.K) look out for 1- Nieuport 17, 1- Sopwith Triplane, 3- 7/8ths SE5a's & 2- Ersatz Junkers CL1's. If their not on the ground by the army museum, they'll be up in the air over the airfield having a scrap.

I am having a bit of fun with this build folks. Though I am not putting a replica modern radial in this build I have decided to dress up this kit as there is no photoetch and I have some bits and pieces left over from the Nieuport kits I am building for the Issoudon diorama. (Nine Nieu. 21 so far there.) Since many will be too far back in the diorama / repairshop I thought I would use some their left over parts.

For the build here I will show you a "Plain Jane" cockpit then I'll show you one in full war load. I am hoping to take images today if the weather holds.

Yabba Dabba doo!

Alright folks here is the bare bones of a basic kit like the Limited edition Eduard Nieuport 17 "Flyboys" kit 1125.

Here is the "dressed up version" with Eduard photoetch from some left over profipack frets and a couple of misc. pieces.

Note the prepainted seat belts mentioned in an earlier thread here at Aeroscale.
