I apologize in advance if this is not in the correct forum.
Would anyone be interested in joining a group build for aircraft from the Soviet Union / Russia from any era? I would like to join a group build, as I'm getting back into modeling after the past ten years without building anything due to high school and college. I really enjoy building Soviet aircraft, and I could definately use the encouragement from a group build. I've purchased a airbrush and compressor, and it seems many things have become more elaborate when building models. I remember just slapping paint on them and putting the decals on. I now know about using future, microset, microsol, resin, and photoetch and I'm really excited about getting back into it.
So, does anyone else out there have any interest in a group build with soviet aircraft from any era?
Thanks guys and glad to be a part of the forums now!

I've got a Trumpeter 1/32 Mig-21 that is needing built and I need the motivation. I have found this site to be the best motivation of all. I'm already participating in 2 campaigns...

When will this one start and for how long will it run fellas? Might pop in with a 1/48 MIG-21 or a SU-22..

Hadn't really thought about the time frame yet. Hopefully we could start it in February and end whenever you guys think is feasible. As I mentioned earlier, I've never participated in a group build, so I'm going to need lots of help from you experienced fellas.

If that's the plans, that'll suit me just fine. I'm in with you fellas. Got plenty to catch up on....

A Feb. start would be great. Gives me a cushion between projects and seeing as I'll be in England the last of this month, it'll allow for the vacation too. :-)

I'd probably be quite up for this too. We don't tend to see too many Russian avaition models and I would certainly like to build some.

Sweet guys,
Should I go ahead and fill out the form to apply for a campaign, or would someone else like to do it?

Hi Mark
Better check with Jean-Luc - strictly speaking, we have our full quota of official Campaigns for the first half of 2007. But I'm definitely up for a group build (so long as the deadline isn't too strict ) because I've got a bundle of Russian aircraft planned for this year - an La-5F, I-3, I-5 and R-5sss for starters - so I should have no trouble finding something to join in with! :-) (And if I stick with those, I won't be breaking my New year's resolution! )
All the best

Thanks Rowan....I'll do that. I was not aware of the quota, so I'm glad I asked.
Thanks again

Not only that the campaign submit isn't working on this site at the moment and i believe the staff are looking into the problem to try and remedy this.

Would it be too much to say if we start now and finish 12-31-2007? Just to see how many russian wings we can scramble together... :-) :-)
What's the Kopro kits like btw?

Hi all
I would like to join tooooo ... haven't built a soviet a/c in a while
I'd go for a ww2 model ... otoh I have some suck-'n'-blow tooo a vietnamese MiG-21 is waiting for completion as is my painful Su-17 M3 (I hurt myself pretty badly when using my motortool on the resin for this one)
@ Jan: IMO the kopros are pretty good while the panel lines a a tad wide ... and they are the only game in town: Su-7, -17/22, -25 (well there is the Monogram .. but both having their issues) and the MiG-21 MF/SMT/bis (ok IIRC quickboost came out with a MiG-21 MF conversion for the Academy recently)
best wishes
Steffen

Thanks a bunch for the info Steffen! I'm thinking putting in a MIG21and a Sukhoi of some kind -7, -15, -22. I know that we're concentrating Russia/Sovjet Union, but how about if we make it a Warsawa Pact build with all the different cool camouflages?

I'm interested too. At least in a little while.
As soon as my Tank-buster campaign entry is finished, I'm up for something new. I have had a real urge to do a Polikarpov - I just love these stubby little racers - so this would fit perfectly.
It is a bit strange though. Anybody else got the feeling that you can't decide if the campaigns suit your planned builds, or if you plan your builds after suitable campaigns?

There seems to be enough support to make this into a campaign. If Jean-Luc is okay with it - why not?

Hi Jesper
I would also love to see a Soviet campaign thius year, as I wrote elsewhere on this board .. we will see the 90th anniversary of the octobre revolution this year ... so the time is right for a
Red Stars campaign.
maybe a target for the 2nd half of the year or a 12 month campaign?
cheers

I'd go for a 12 month campaign. That is only because we already have voted for the campaigns this year. But then, this is completely up to the almighty and just staff of this forum....
:-)
Here's something fun btw: Survey of Russian Airfields
CIVILIAN AIRFIELDS AND RUSSIAN AND SOVIET AIR BASES
Russian Air Arms Russian Air Force, Order Of Battle,Maps, Squadrons, Badges, Photos

My word!! Those boys have some air bases!!!
I quite fancy a 1/48 Frogfoot if I can find one.
A year build sounds good to me but I'll go with whatever everyone else wants

I'm in! Haven't decided what I'll build yet (got alot of VVS and USSR in the pile) but I'm in if this goes on. That 'splinter' job on the Czech MiG is really really cool........wonder if anyone will brave doing it?

Have a couple of A.M Yak's just waiting to be built, plus an A.M Sturmovik, and to top this I have an Eduard La-7 in the mail, so there should be something to build... Finishing it will be another thing.
