Caraktère - Presse & Editions kindly sent a sample copy of Aérojournal #49, which arrived simultaneously with the News release. There are some fascinating articles in this issue. Obviously, the stand-out for many will be the detailed look at the career of Hans-Ulrich Rudel, with some beautifully reproduced photos, a number of which are new to me. There are colour profiles of several of Rudel's aircraft, so there's plenty of inspiration for modellers. The same holds true for USN ace David McCampbell , and Armand Pinsard, who flew in two world wars, with his all-black SPAD VII and striking black and silver MS.406.

Inevitably, the all-French text may be something of a stumbling block for some readers, but having studied French as a foreign language at school many years ago (and suitably armed with my old pocket French-English dictionary) I was pleasantly surprised how quickly much came flooding back - and it certainly worth persevering because a lot of the material is unusual. For many modellers it'll be the photos and artwork that will be the main interest, and here the captions are very accessible with even the most basic or rusty French.

Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AEROSCALE.
