1⁄35109 Down!
I started with the 1/72 Hasegawa Me-109 F/G
kit and built it pretty much OTB. Even applied, what in my opinion was the best paint job I'd done to date, except to the prop and the landing gear for obvious reasons, when you view the photos. Applied all the decals and clear coated the model. Colors applied were not intended to represent any particular aircraft, but were chosen to depict "typical" markings recognizable by those not necessarily familiar with the Luftwaffe.
Now that the aircraft was assembled on to choose the "crash site". I applied the KISS (Keep it simple Stupid)
principle-just enough to give the impression of outdoors, but nothing to take away from the model.
The base is made of a 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" (16.5 cm x 16.5 cm) piece of packing Styrofoam. I decided I needed one tree to give the dio height and a little background. I covered the base with a thin coat of Model Railroading Modeling Earth (works like CelluClay but looks like dirt), and applied a mixture of, coarse and fine scenic grass, using my trusty pepper shaker. Then to the test crashes. You won't believe how many times I crashed that plane into that scene. I finally decided on the placement and then moved on to the "modifications".
