1⁄35Modeling a Lippisch DM-1
We'll be fix'in to put tegether the interior, a cockpit floor and behind it a
large, flat, thin thing that the landing gear will be attached to in one of the
later steps. Them pictures in the instructions are vague at best and one needs
to be Xtremely certain where things are t'go. Some extra support for the landing
gear panel will be needed otherwise the weight of the kit will snap it off, an
we don't want it ta rattle around inside, now do we?
Top and bottom, slap some glue and forget, not really. Top and bottom are a more
unlikely pair than a rattlesnake an a prairie dog at a Saturday night Social.
Get set fer a lot of putty and sanding on a flat surface, something AMC should
have done when making the master. No CAD, what ever that is, were used in the
crafting of this kit, that I'm sure of! Take yer time and build up that filler
on all edges, use'n 180 grit paper on a flat piece of glass, like this one I got
when the Barclay Boys shot up the Red Dog Saloon last weekend, to get the
leading and trailing edges straight. Total time for the top and bottom was about
4 hours of sculpting, slop'in on more filler, etc., etc. And don't forget the
tail part, it's best to glue this on and also blend it in. Don't mind the
engraved surface features, you'll have plenty 'o time to scratch them back on.
There was a couple of sunken spots and hollows where the master maker must have
pressed too hard on the mold that also needed to be looked at.
