Been looking forward on seeing the "chipped" effect . Will have to try this in the future on a Dr.I build .

Can't wait to see this one !

Well, everything was going swimingly!

Last night I masked and painted the Engine Cowel. Here are a couple of shots of my dry fitting.

and then... Murphy came to visit.

I was moving the whole shebang back to my work desk, and somehow, I am not quite certain of how, the fuselage ended up under my desk and in more pieces than it was previously.

The air was blue.

I was so hoping to have this finished this month...

I am extremely vexed.

Sigh.

Cheers,

Hugh

Greetings Hugh;

My sincere condolences. I know of a similar issue with IPMS Judges Grand Champion Derek Brown. This fellow scratchbuilds 1/72 14cylinder Japanese WWII radials. While walking to his basement workshop he tripped with a 97% completed two engine build and the bird sailed into the far wall at about 20 mph. There is hardly anything that can hurt a modeler more. But don't lose heart she will be fixed in your good time. I wish I could buy you a pint or two or three.

Larsa

Well, to my mind, I have no choice. I have to fix it.

Last night, after posting and then watching Mythbusters and Alien V Predator, I got stuck into fixing the spine break.
That is now ready to paint again.

There is also a small crack between the fire wall and the fuselage on the port side. That will be easy to fix.

The fuselage parts will be a little harder... But I have now found all the bits (the throttle quadrant was the most elusive...). So I will start on putting that all together again after the painting (and Weathering) is completed.

Cheers,

Hugh

Time will heal all pain. But if you can do it once, you can do it twice.

The last time I had one of those episodes, I tossed it out, then I went straight to the LHS and ordered a replacement kit and resin. I refused to build anything until the kit and resin came in. Then I worked straight through, putting in about 10 hours a day, until it was finished. It came ou great. So when I say I feel and understand you pain. I really, really do. I am sure there are others who probably can tell some OCD stories when it comes to modeling. We are a breed unto ourselves.

Oh, don't worry Kalt! There were lots of F words being thrown around... So many in fact that my wife commented on the number of F words that were being used!

Here is last nights and todays work.

I reckon, that in the end, the delay caused by this should only be a few days... Thanks goodness!

Cheers,

Hugh

Looking good, that´s the spirit, we can always repair. Now you will remember this build for a long time, and your wife will love you still. My family have had several times that is me exploding in the hobbyroom, but still they love me at least that´+s what they say when I´m around

Good work

Thanks guys. Yes I am very pleased with how easy it was to fix. Now I just have to fit the cockpit details back togetehr again.
I think I will build the cockpit framing up as a sub assembly and insert as one piece. Then fit the Fuel tank and the Ammo tins.

And then, without further ado, whack the top cowelling on and protect (or at least try to) the interior from further damage.

By the way. F-word = "Farnarkle"...

Cheers,

Hugh

It takes a strong will not to give up and back burner a project when something like this happens. Well done on the repair!

Oh, believe me, I was tempted to do exactly that! I was even contemplating what I could go on with for a change of scenery...

But my better judgement prevailed! "Do it now" I said to my self. Get it fixed and finished and move on with a clear concience.

Hugh

Well Folks, I think we are finally on the home stretch.

The main sub-assemblies and components have all had a coat of Tamiya Smoke.

And the first of many washes (Burnt Umber) has been applied to the Fuselage... This will move on to the wings as well... Later, a lighter wash of black will be applied...

Gee, I wish you could see the real effect in the photos...

I've been watching to see how this one worked out after some shading - not to be a spoil sport, it's an interesting effect, but I gotta say Hugh that I kinda liked your first cammo attempt more (admittedly I did say that the shading was a little dark on the underside of your first attempt, however I can't really see any shading on this one at all, and it tends to overemphasise the chipped effect) I can't quite see the aircraft looking like this in real life?
That said, I think the technique applied with a little more restraint would be quite convincing.

I get the feeling you are keen to get this one finished
