How much did you thin the tamiya smoke ?

'bout 50-50.

Thanks Terri.

I get the feeling you are keen to get this one finished

Yes Brad. I have a few other projects that I realy want to get stuck into (and some that I really need to finish in order to asuage my concience). Watch this space

I don't want to actually produce shading around the rib tapes at all... I want to highlight them, while at the same time tone down the chipping.
Having said that, I have a few more washes to go yet and I will stop when I can see no further positive response to those.

I know it does look over done... and it is very easy to over do it with the masking fluid, as the thinner the fluid is, the more difficult it is to see... so you are not always sure where you have masked.

This is not an effect that I will try again.

Don't get me wrong Brad, I value your input very much...

Cheers,

Hugh

Hugh,
This has to rank as the most bold paint scheme that I have seen for Voss's DR1 yet. You are pulling the whole thing off well! Although I still remain in the "Blue Base Camp" I appreciate your skills in weathering, and your streaking is well done!

Thanks Mark, Stephen and Rick.

Yes, I know, bold... to the extreme. I have stopped my self from taking this build along to IPMS meetings as I hate to see grown men faint.

This build is, believe it or not, progressing. Things like details and gloss coats to take the few decals that i am using...

The Mid Plane and the upper decking are on. Not an easy task as the upper decking really did not want to fit.

I will try to post a few photos later tonight, but we sepnt the day at an Agricultural show with my wifes Clydesdale mare today and she has a few hundred photos from that that she will probably want to post on various heavy horse forums. I may get the computer back before bed time... then again, I may not...

Cheers,

Hugh

OK. My good lady wife has retired for the night.

I am free to post the photos as promised.

Oh, one job to get onto is to make up the leather surround for the cockpit combing.
Lead foil for that one I think.

Hugh

Hugh,

Outstanding work. This GB is really bringing out the best in what is a great group of modelers. A joy to watch.

A small update tonight.
I have been fitting the control cables to the tail surfaces and ailerons. Now ready to paint and then to fit the upper main plane (this has been extensively dry fitted).

Here is a shot of the lead foil leather cockpit surround. It still needs a slight trim.

Getting there...

Just gotta add the steps and prop (I was toying with the idea of carving one, but I think I'll just paint up the kit part), weather the wheels (which are just sitting in place at the moment) and give the whole lot a few coats of flat clear to show up where I still need to finish weathering.

Cheers,

Hugh

Thanks guys and gals.

On the home stretch now.
Tonight could possibly see the end of this build. The prop has had it's first coat after a bit of filling and minor reshaping (this was kept to a minimum). My prefered method of replicating the laminations is to airbrush them... Watch this space!

Then paint and wash the boss, a few little touch ups, and I have everey confidence that I aught to be able to post finished photos this evening (eastern standard Australian time).

Cheers,

Hugh

Ta daaaaah!

It took longer than I would have liked, but then every thing seems to as I get older...

Thanks to Roden for supplying the kit, Stephen for choosing me to build it, and every one who contributed to this thread with comments and critiques, positive and negative.

Cheers,

Hugh

Excellent Hugh!!! She is a honey. You were the right fellow to do this kit. The attention to detail is of a high calibre. Forgive my Impertinence but I see a great diorama here. All you need is a Voss figure and a mechanic with a note in his hand. The title to be something like "While I am on leave you may begin the repaint we planned. signed Ltn W. Voss Sept. 23, 1917."

Thanks Stephen,
and if I trusted my self not to make a hash of the figures, I might just do that...
Something to think about certainly.

Cheers,

Hugh
