And while I cogitate over the PC10, I have sprayed a white base for the Roundels and Fuselage markings, then masked and sprayed the Wing Roundels. Photos tonight.

As promised, a day late, but never mind.
You all know that I prefer to mask and spray markings if possible rather than use decals.
On 1/48 builds, I have recently not bothered so much with the PC10 overlap around the edges of the flying surfaces, but in this scale, I am going to attempt to replicate it.
I'm still trying to work out how i am going to mask the slots in the underside of the engine cowel (any ideas?)
Cheers,
Hugh

Hugh , your national markings are really cool . awesome job done . Have you found a way to mask the vents on the under side of the belly pan yet ? if I was doing the build , I would either use small bits of tissue or make plastic wedges . Either way it looks rather difficult area to mask .

this looking real good on my screen.Must say you´r speed in this build just blows my head. If I only could be half that fast, I ended up with twice the number off finished models in the end off this year.
Love it,

PC10 is on. I used a mix of 50-50 Tamiya Flat Black and Olive Drab. Looks ok. I will shade it with Black on the rib tapes (or Tamiya Smoke)...
A few more little details to mask and spray (Fuselage Roundels and Band) and then the single decal will be placed (the Tail Serial Number).
Photos tonight too.
Cheers,
Hugh

Thanks Terri,
A little more "green" than I would like, but we'll see how it comes up after weathering.

Hugh

G'day Hugh - interesting shade of PC-10 - it does seem rather dark, almost looks like a nivo night finsh! Is the colour lighter in real life? I presume you are tackling an AFC training squadron scheme by the looks of things?

I know what you mean Brad.
Not sure that I like it that much if I'm honest. Is a little lighter in real life.
And not sure what shade to use for shading the rib tapes.

Indeed I am Brad. The one with the White Kangaroo on a red field.
It was going to be that or the multicoloured one... Might have to purchase another kit I think...

Well Hugh , I know you have a thing for colour and getting it just right . I really do like your shade though . It's a hard colour to get right on the money . I've seen so many different shades of this I 'm starting to see it in my dreams ! Could you lighten the colour some and mist some on ? or would this cover to much of the pre-shading on the rib tapes ?

Here's an idea for ya Hugh - The colour you have on now could form the basis for some ligher oversprays which will work to both lighten the colour (if you feel it is too dark) and will also tackle the rib tapes. I would firstly look at a "mirror" mask for the rib tapes - ie, mask everything that isn't rib tape - then spray a slightly lightened mix of your PC-10 (maybe with more brown if you feel it is too green at the moment). Remove the masking and you'll have nice rib tapes, then spray the same lightened colour between the rib bays - this will make the lighter colour "look" like its the base coat and will make the darker colour "look" like the shading ( In fact, it's almost like pre-shading in reverse). If the contrast is still too strong between the lighter and darker colours, some light oversprays with the lighter colour will help to blend it all in. ... Just a thought The only drama may be that you will need to re-mask the markings.
Glad to see you will be doing an AFC bird!

Hmmm. Yep, that would work.
I reverse masked my Eduard Albatros W4 to do the rib tapes and they came up nice, but jeez it was hard work.
I think however, that positive masking, using a heavy sort of shade with straight (thinned) Tamiya Olive Drab, then do a finer shade with smoke...
That would make the rib tapes darker than the rest... not sure that is the effect I am looking for, but I could filter it later with an over spray...
Might have to do some experimenting.
Thanks for the thinking Brad.
Cheers,
Hugh

Wow -- !
Hugh, I really am impressed with the way you built & painted the engines, and the wood frame interior! Not to mention the masking!
Were you going to use any pigments to highlight? I've recently purchased the "War pigs" brand and some of the colours are quite stunning! I build in "Braille scale" and have Roden's SE-5 1/72 on my 'shelf-of-doom' waiting to be built. Your posts have been very instructional & inspirational! Thanks!!

Well, I masked all the upper flying surface rib tapes and gave them a light spray of Tamiya Olive drab and then a spray of Tamiya Smoke.
Sigh... Getting there.

Nice to see a bit of ulster's greatest export (linen) peeking out in the cockpit. And the post shading round the rib tapes is great.
Esp on the roundels,
Looking forward to experimenting with all the techniques you lot are using in this GB. Be a shame to see it finish. Will there be a GB gallery at the end?

Yes Steve, Masked and Sprayed. I have an old Bow Compass that I inherited form my grandfather. I have grafted a craft knife blade onto the marking end.
The only decal is the fuselage roundel, taken from my Eduard Camel Dual Combo kit.
Thanks guys.
