Wow! Gentle folk of the Early Aviation title. 1/48 scale is about to be bountifully blessed.

A completely new Eduard kit of the Austro-Hungarian DIII, 153 and 253 series isgoing to be revealed! Plus some other Eduard kits - Fokker D.VII (OAW) mid-production D.4649/18 "Seven Swabians is already anounced. ". . .In March, we will follow up with the Fokker D.VII (OAW) Sieben Schwaben with the well known and very colorful markings depicting the seven dwarfs(sic) fighting a monster rabbit. . . '

They will ". . .create two kits in the ‘Der rote Flieger’ style this year. They will be the SPAD 13 in USAAC (USAS) service and the Fokker Eindecker. Both kits will contain resin figures and a pin depicting a significant symbol. These two WW I kits won’t be the only representatives of this style; . ."

". . .Also important are the changes to our web page. They will be easily picked out. We also corrected our sale conditions to correspond with the new market situation. And also, we tested a new style of discount promotions, with the Pearl Harbor and Operation Bodenplate discounts. These discounts, 12%, were applied on he selected items related to these historical occasions. We will conduct similar promotions during this year, but don’t expect that I will tell you which ones, and when. I’ll keep these under wraps until the time is right! So dear friends, I wish you a prosperous 2009. No matter the turbulence, keep on modeling!
Vladimir Sulc"

Or in the venacular of the Aeroscale Early Aviation title Model On!

Greetings All The Seven Swabians was painted on Fok. D.VII (OAW)4649/18 and was assigned to Jasta 64w . Here is a bit of background on the marking from a "children's story."

7 Swabians folklore

The wheels should not be overpainted a solid colour but the typical OAW factory Green center with a mauve outer circle to the wheel cover rim. The brown has been decribed via the NASM (Fokker D.VII 4635/18 "U.10" was also from Jasta 64w originally.) as a chocolate brown. These schemes were done in the field of course and the brown and grey colours may have varied from machine to machine .

The pilot was a Gefr. (private) Schutzel.

I have a few of their 48 scale , but haven't built any yet . They aren't to bad at all in detail with the resin and PE parts which are made by Eduard . The plastic parts are like short run kit's . Detail is fine in some areas while it can be heavy in others .

The Hanas sounds great , just have to wait and see if they do come out with it . Just might have to get that one .

Well,

Not so many suprises on the Roden list. Almost all of 'm are variations on already known themes. I was hoping suggestions Roden asked for on this and other sites are going to be put in effort.

These are topics that they had chosen in 2006-07. We will probably have to wait until 2010 to see what we suggested.

Being a "Braille Scale" Modeler (no laughter please!), I would LOVE to see DML & Roden release some of the kits mentioned above in 1/72 scale! DML's D VII would be a fantastic addition! I've built their D V and N-17 and they're great! I would also like Roden to down size their N-28 !!

I think you mean Eduard. DML never did the D.V nor the Nie.17. But I agree, if you mean Eduard. Their D.VII in The Proper Scale would be awesome!!

Thanks Stephen!

Yes, I've seen the list, unfortunately, with the exception of the Britol Bullet by ELF and the Thomas- Morse Scout by Olimp, there's not much else out there. I see the listing by Revell, but unless they've updated the 40+ year old molds for the SPAD XIII, Sopwith Camel and Fokker D VII, it's going to be a bleak year for 1/72 scale WW I models..

Yes, I meant Eduard and actually RODEN when I initially replied. Serves me right for not having a second cup of "Army coffee" before I got on the site so early in the morning..

On the bright side of things, I still have plenty of quality unbuilts in my 'stash' to focus on. Perhaps by the time I'm finished, Eduard will spring a nice present on us Braille Scalers!

Same old...... where are the FE2s, DH2s, Avro504s, Caudrens, and Siemens Schuckerts, Rumblers, Staakens and Friedrichhavens. At least I see a BE12, a Matinsyde Elephant and a Hansa Where are the Bleriots, Demoiselles, Antoinettes, Taubes, Curtisses and Bristols. Where is the Ilya Moroumets, the FBA, Lohner and Curtiss flying boats. All right some of these are available as short run models.
I love the DVII, SE5 etc but the aircraft before 1918 consist of so much more.
Rant over, I'm going to drool over my Roden 11/2 strutter.

The only ones that actually look like something "new" (ie not a variation on a theme) are the Roden BE12a, DH9 and DH9a. Yes I know the BE12a was released previously by Aeroclub... but we all agree that we could do with a new mould... and yes I know the DH9 shared the DH4s wings, but the DH9a was a different bird entirely, so these should be mostly new moulds.

I wonder if there are any more details on when / if the BE12a and DH9 are going to be released this year? There is a colour pic on the Roden web page of the DH9 which usually indicates a release in the near future.... I could happily build some DH9s and BE12a's in AFC / RAAF markings
