Thoroughly puzzled by this one J-P! The pedals, control column and gun sight all say 109, but I can't find a 109 variant or special that ever had a rounded windscreen and canopy...

Messerschmitt Me 309? Still don't think the canopy was as rounded as in this photo....

You are right Michal! I had discounted the 'speed record' 209 as it wouldn't have needed the gun sight, and the later 'fighter' 209 had a very square canopy like the 109. But is seems like there were a few fighter development prototypes derived from the 'speed record' 209, this is the cockpit of the V4.

Oops! Sorry Michal, I missed this one.
209 it is. A nice teaser considering everyone knows the 109. Over to you for a Polish Puzzler

Hi Michal,
That's the only known photo of a Me 163A with R4M rockets, taken at Udetfeld, in southern Poland between October '44 and January '45. I think the airfield was used as a Soviet base with a 1600 metre paved runway. It is now called Legnica Airport.

I'm just trusting forum posts from all over the internet, but was Udetfeld actually at the location of the current Katowice International Airport?

Nick, right country, but not related to the P-39.
It was a much lighter design, 2/3rds the weight of a P-39, 8 cylinder 700hp engine, 2 blade prop, plywood wings.
