You should see it in the Farnborough colour scheme - dark blue underside and a red cheatline. The only things missing were a Plimsoll line and a row of brass scuttles along the fuselage.

Well, I have to say this forum is among the best. Thin one is just another I never knew about. The biggest question however is this - will the stuff here never seize to amaze me, or did that happen a long time ago.

Anyway, yes, the plane is Argentine, but not a Tank design.
And a hint, the tandem twin jet was experimental......

My apologies, everyone, I didn't know. So lets get rid of my garbage right now. The pointy one is the IA 37, designed by Reinhold Horten, 1948 in Argentina.

The tandem jet is the experimental Su-15 (not to be confused with the production Su-15 Flagon) The experimental Su-15 had a bifricated nose inlet, one duct going to the front engine which exited under the fuselage a la the Yak-15, the other duct leading to the rear engine exiting out the tail.

I guess it flies to the left. Had it flown to the right, the first letter read by people seing it would be "Y". Then "M", "R" and so on. And, I mean, what's YMRA? Ergo - It flies to the left.

Jaypee - fairly sure the left-hand end is the front but don't quote me on that. The configuration is reminiscent of some of the tandem-wing designs tried out in the war - is it made by Miles or Westland?

Matthew - no big deal stepping in, hope you enjoy the quiz! I'm not sure the old Su-15 is truly tandem, though, since the engines are along different axes. Strictly speaking the EE LIghtning had the same layout, since the lower engine was mounted under the wing and the upper one further back. A truly tandem jet would have the rear one breathing the exhaust from the front one and I don't want to think about that! It occurred to me that the Do 335 is a tandem twin, but then of course that's not a jet ...

Not sure of any direct Miles or Westland connection. There is a Hawker
connection though through the designer.

but Sir Sydney is almost certain to have spoken to the designer of this aircraft.

Yep the designer worked for Hawker. But this plane is not part of the Hawker group.

Time for clue,
The designer worked on while at hawker: the bucc, the fury and the hunter.

This plane began development in 1971

It's a One Eyed One Horned Flying Purple People Eater (in winter camouflage).

ok another clue then. He was a test pilot at Hawker, not an a/c designer.
so may have spoke to Sir Sydney.

Also this is not full scale plane just a 70% test rig powered by an 85hp
engine.

ok the key is the designers name as this was a small operation
It was a weekend prject that many hawker and BAC engineers had
their hand in. It was a completely serious venture to provide the
British Army with a cheap stol for infils. they even had rocket pack
mounting made for it for close support role!

His surname he shared with the man who killed the miles supersonic project. A relation? I don't know.
Once you have surname it is a google search away.
