I'd say that was the Barling XNBL-1.
And I'd say you were quite right! Well done Graeme - it is indeed the Witteman-Lewis XNBL-1 "Barling Bomber". Over to you for the next one.
All the best
Rowan

Ah, "The World's Worst Aircraft" book comes to the fore again!
I'll make up something for the next question shortly.

I'm awake again.
Probably too easy, but what was the only jet airliner that had the engines mounted OVER the wings?

Nope, not really easy, but I have a guess to start it up with.
I think Ilyusjin made a transport a/c for rough terrain, with the engines high to protect them from dust and fod. That might have been used as an airliner too. I have my Swedish airforce recognition manual packed away though, so I can't check.
Close?

Tony, you may be right that there was a Russian one, but Sean's picked the only one I know about.
Over to you , Sean!

OK, then, staying in that corner of the envelope for now ... name East Germany's only airliner design.

I would say "it's an aeroplane" but I'm having some doubt even about that. The last time I saw something with that much framing it had tomatoes growing in it.
No idea, pre-war not my strongest suit, but hopefully this will keep the thread near the top of the list ...

It looks like something Boulton & Paul. So my guess is Boulton & Paul's Skeleton in the Wardrobe of British Aircraft Industry.

Hi John
The nose glazing reminds me of the Il'ya Muromets, but I've still hit a dead end on the tri-plane configuration. I can tell I'm going to kick myself when the answer is revealed!

Should I give the answer ? Post another "bird" ? Wait for the right answer ?
Pick one...
More clues maybe... it's Russian. And he didn't build anymore planes after that one.. go figure..

I get the feeling you've busted us all. That's impressive considering the extraordinary (Rain Man, kind of..) airplane knowledge I've seen in this forum.
Still no idea!

Well, given enough clues ... my Big Fat Book of Russian Insanity identifies it as the KOMTA - an airliner with 6-8 passengers! Anyone fancy a seat in it?
