Thanks all....I was going to bottle out of doing the woodgrain, but I'm pretty pleased with the result....its a little fragile though till you seal it, damp sweaty fingers take it off in a flash.

I never thought of using water color for doing wood grain ( I missed this the frist time )
So using a brush to seal it with future would not be vizable them . Just wondering how you would seal this with out it , well no negitive vibes here . i'm guessing light cotes with future in a airbrush . Finding that lacquer would eat it's way through water color .

Terri you guessed right...several light coats of Klear which is our eqivalent of Future I guess.
I went so far as to give her a few thin coats of tamiya clear red well diluted to get the cherry varnish hue....... then got stupid...overtired late at night tried painting the cowls and bits by hand........
I've been trying to touch in today, but may resort to stripping back the cowls and repainting what I can.
well here is some PRE TOUCHUP pics....quite a mess, the pics look worse than RL actually *lies badly* LOL
Be gentle with me....kinda dented my confidence a bit with this mess up.....
gotta think about rigging soon so pointers will be welcome

Nice build, I tried woodgrain on the Eduard DIIIa but used Tamiya sand and lightly drybrushed Earth finished over with Clear Orange. Worked well. Your engine is great and the Red Bull can idea is worth following but an alterative is used Litho plate available from a friendly printer. I am prone to the impatience thing, it rarely works and I always regret it. Nice build, keep it coming

yes Andrew me too, and it seldom pays off.....I just don't know when to stop late at night, it all looks good....but in the morning light.....uh oh! after so many years you think a lesson would be learned....smiles.
The DIII (OAW) is in the new arrivals and waiting its place on the bench right now.

No worries Keith!
You will have that knocked back into shape with a short session. It might help to scribe the panels lines lightly. Truthfully the Klear coating may help, as it will not give the grey a deep grab into the finish.

Many thanks all for the encouragement, yes Stephen you maybe right, Klear/Future seems to work wonders alround.
Ive touched up the red varnish pretty well but some of the flat grey has brushstrokes in it......I was thinking of applying thinner to these areas with the airbrush....or just careful gentle sanding, fastener replacement followed by careful airbrushing.
All depends how brave I feel and whether I can keep my itchy fingers out of the kits the postman gave me yesterday.
Thanks all K

Okay, I stripped the cowls back. slow and tedious but I couldnt see any other option and didnt damage the laquered wood too bad in the effort.
some repairs done, a few small details added here and there. she just needs a few more repairs done and its almost top wing on time......
then RIGGING!!! *any hints tips on making/buying turnbuckles will be gratefully rec'd guys and girls.
I have the prop all but done, the spinner sanded and ready for painting. The guns are ready to fit, the wheels need a little work still to give them a bit of a dirty used look...
I'm kinda stuck for markings, she is turning out like none of the Roden examples....I may just go for a generic look and fudge the works number.
Any way pics are not to clear, and were before the final touch up after spraying the cowls I'm hoping for some free time at the weekend to almost get her TickettyBoo
Thanks for the encouragement, work is slow on this at the moment and to sate my build desire I startrd on the Roden DIII OAW.......ended up with more bits than the kit comes in. LOL

Hi Keith
Making turnbuckles.
Look for the thread " The beauty is in the details"There you can find one way to make turnbuckles. I posted some images and a little test about how I make them. Otherwise you can find Bob Buckles turn buckles on Ebay. He sells them, never used them but I know very good modeller who do, and the result is real good.

I'm progressing, but slowly, I cant keep my fingers out the DIII box...a few little fixes and I should be about right to pop the upper wing on then after it sets....rigging weather has been bad for pics...I want to try outdoors in natural light.
Anyhoo.......thanks for all the help and encouragement so far everyone.

Thanks Terri,
I hope to do some and get some pics posted at the weekend, hoping its dry enough to get a few outdoor pics so the colours look truer. Awful I know but I'm working on both this and the DIII which I'm tinkering on before the new Part of Poland sets arrive.
Ive done the repairs, drilled the struts and pegged them with wire, hopefully dryfitting and setting the upper wing this weekeknd then its Riggomortis time *LOL*

Well I made some progress Saturday, got the windhoos done, pinched the PE off the Encore DII for the moment till my Part of Poland sets arrive.
I fitted the upper wing relatively easily, fixed and pinned to the centre cabane before fitting the struts which I had predrilled and added brass rod, the operation went easily I have to say.....not a great deal so set up and plan though I do think the wing is a tad high because I pinched the body earlier and if you look close the cowling sits a little too curved....lesson learned
I still have a few PE details to add, some cant be fitted till rigging time....*breaks out in a sweat*
So this is her so far, I did forget to fix the exhaust for the pics but everything else is fixed for now.
I am fairly pleased so far, my first 1/32 build which got anywhere near painting....LOL I have learned a lot from this so far, knowledge that will make the DII and DIII (OAW) much easier and better builds I hope.
Theres still plenty to do here yet though, details and weathering once I have her closer to complete
Thanks for looking, and all comments taken......I would prefer to know mistakes rather than reproduce them in the future.
TY Keith
