. SSShhhh its a secret. Don't tell anyone. . .

Thanks Stephen: I won't tell if you won't! Remember, two can a secret if one is dead!
Got a little motivation, and will be working on it today. Should have the painting done, and moving on to the final phase.
I will scope out the reference too. I picked up the one you recommended on Jasta Boelcke. Saw the picture of the DV with the three amigos in front, and then the color plates. An excellent book and reference.

Cheers

Mark, get your butt in gear and get back on it!!!! she looks good mate ,I'm in the same slump with my WNW LVG,I'm all decaled out with the loz(bashing head on work bench as I type!!!) and I've got to try the rigging yet!!,
Model on

Andy

Hi Andy; I am on it, tracking and on target with rounds inbound! I know the feeling. It seems as if you are lozenging forever. The rigging is the easy part. I followed one of the members here idea and that is..rig the upper wing center section before doing any more. If you use turnbuckles put all of those in, install the lower wing, and rig the upper center sectin to the lower wing to povide stability. Place the rigging material in the lower wing turnbuckles closest to the fuselage keeping enough to attach to the upper wing when installed, Put in the upper wings, and pop in the struts, it is a heavy model, the rigging does supply support. Then start the rigging from the inboard to the outboard. Once the wings were on, it went quickly for me, and it is an impressive and really neat looking model. You can do it.

Cheers

Thanks Mark and Terri: It is going rather well so far. I painted it last night. No pics as I won't be home tonight, but hopefully tomorrow or Thursday. I mixed the paint per the WNW instructions, and then I put in more brown as it looked too green. I may have gotten it too brown, but you know, it looks good to me.
It won't be long now.

Cheers:

Mark, "Adapt and Overcome"?

Hi Mark: Yup, I adapted a slower and more methodical approach and definately overcame the setback. Proceeding nicely.

LOL!

Doing same routine with F-16. Planes may get sleeker, but the molders never get better.

Hi Terri:

This is going much better. I spent more time on test fitting, and really studying the instructions. I did send WNW a recommendation on changing the sequence of assembly per my experience, and the instructions. I got it painted, the landing gear on, and will be decaling it. Pictures to be forthcoming. The fit was good, I did use some of the interior pieces off the wreck and they fit and look good. I have almost all the subassemblies painted and should be finishing up this week or next week. Then it is on to the either the J-1, or the encore Albatros D-2 in Boelcke's markings. With the advent of warmer weather my modeling time takes a back seat to motorcycling. But I digress.

Check your private email.

Best

So you are in a slump. It happens to the best of us. I have dusted my SE 5a build off as I too have been in a slump. I have been doing a whole lot of work but I dont seem to be able to get anything done right now. I only finished one model so far this year. I currently have a Roden 1/32 D.III, a WNW SE 5a, eight car models, and an all out build of a 1/32 Me 109 G-14 in progress. I was also giving some serious thought to doing another LVG, but one of the frets is missing. I can't seem to get over the slump I am in. But two Albatri are currently inbound from Frodoland. (Yeah, I really really need to start another build.)

I think my slump is going to come to an end soon.

As for your build. It really looks good. I think you are going to be happy with it when it is done. What are you going to use for rigging?

Hi Carl:

I was going to use that wire from RB productions, but decided against it. The attachment are too small for these eyes, and I am happy with the results I get from using EZ Line, so I will stick with that. I am in the process of putting in the turnbuckles I made. I tried a different technique, and am happy with that. I am sure the IPMS judges would tear it apart, but I am happy with the results, and I can still put out a decent looking model. Too bad about missing an entire fret from WNW. I am going to order another LVG, and put my now fiances name it along with the other Eleonor or whatever it is. When I told her that, she said......"COOOL". Yes, a keeper indeed.
Yes, the slump will pass. The new Albatri will motivate and recharge your model building batteries. Sounds like you have too many projects going at once, and not seeing completion on any of them reduces the motivation factor. That's why I only do one at a time. As my good friend Mr. Dowdal always would say, 'This too shall pass'.
Take care

EZ Line. Is that the stretchy stuff? I like the stretchy stuff the best, but I think I am going to try the RB Productions PE for the SE 5a. I have one of those magnafication lights to help my old eyes.

Congrats on the other thing. Have you set a date yet?

Ever notice how we old farts get the best women?

Yup EZ line is the stretch stuff. www.berkshirejunction.com. I use the heavy for the flying wires, and the fine for the rest. I really like it.
I have a set of the RB PE I will sell you at rock bottom price. I am at work but I will send you a separate email when i get home and scope it out. I won't be using it.
Yes, we do get the best women. I think it is because we are old farts and we know what we want. For the most part.
No date yet.

Okay Folks:

This is going well so far. I am out of the slump. Got it painted, some decals on, the landing gear is rigged as are the aelerons control horns.

I mixed the Tamiya paint per the WNW instructions, but it looked too green, so I put in some more brown. I think I overdid it. Anyway, this is it, I think it is alright.. There is a fellow on the 'Drome" who is quite adamant about PC10, as the directions say in the WNW kit, WWI colors are subject to no small amount of controversy.

I tried a different technique for counter shading the wing braces, I am happy with the results.

Great work Mark! Been reading your buildlog this morning, really strong to overcome such a setback. Will keep all my lamps off when modelling in the future to avoid any misshaps

Keep up the good work, you're nearly there!

Hi Mikeal:

Thanks. I am warming up to it and it is moving along nicely. This week or next week and I will finished photos up. Not to worry about lamps, just don't put it in front of a space heater to 'assist' with paint drying. What Was I thinking?

Best

Greetings All:

Just a few shots of the progress. As you can see the wings are on, the prop, and I am doing the rigging. I still have to put the decals on the tires, the gun on the top wing, but it's showing progress.

I was scoping out the pictures of the TVAL SE.5a in the instructions, and the close ups of the exhaust showed a rather pinkish powdery appearance to the exhaust along with black and rust. So, I tried that.

So far so good. I think I got it a little too brown, but it could well represent a new a/c.
Cheers
