Just an idea I was kicking around the empty vessel of my head.
I'm up to my neck in campaigns as I'm sure a lot of you are.
But thought a little sporting challenge should be laid down this being an Ashes year.
An Ashes speed build, 5 days. Any RAF or RAAF aircraft.
We aren't looking for anything fancy. OOB after Christmas blow out the cobwebs type thing.
I know Aussie competitiveness won't be able to resist a ribbon with a tiny urn or cricket stumps (we'd need 10 to make it proper campaign though)
Can the Poms pick up the challenge?
Dates would be the 5 days of the final test. 3-7 Jan. 2011
No extensions and extra points for sledging on the official thread.
Will the real ashes be up for grabs then?

Hi Jaypee
That's a great idea. I'm in, a bit of competition is a great motivation for me.

Good man, thats the spirit!
I'd like to leave room for the civvy builders so any Austrailian or UK registered planes count too. Bonus for anyone who models this.

And we wonder why kids hate cricket?
Come to think of it I'll probably not even be at home. Back to Ireland for chrimbo for the first time in years.
So kit and tools will need to fit in my washbag.

Brilliant, thanks for jumping on board.
That's fighting talk Matthew!
It'll be 3rd-7th Jan 2011.
To last for five days assuming the Aussies can hold out Finn that long.
Could be over as soon as day 3. So no slouching.

Clarke and Watson will make 500 by lunch on the first day, then bowl England out twice by tea. Then we have 4 days to build models in peace.

Five whole days huh...Sounds like a minimum of three models for me then. I have no understanding of Cricket other than what looks like a bat and a ball of some sort... I was a baseball player before a nasty motorcycle crash ended that. Kinda hard to continue playing with a broken collar bone, elbow and middle finger. Maybe again some day, but unlikely. Things still pop that shouldn't ... Looking forward to the campaign. Need to look through the stash and find some likely candidates. I have a couple in mind though. "Q"

The only thing I know about Crickets, is they backed Buddy Holly.
5 Days... - usually takes me that long to mask a canopy.
Well - I know I've got some great kits with RAF and RAAF markings. And, it's a great way to kick off the New Year, with one on the shelf after just a week.
I guess I'll have a go...
Cheers,
Mike

JP, Are you kidding? I'm so over-commited I had to spreadsheet the builds just to try and give myself enough time (yeah, I did that). It says that on the 31st I'll be trying to finish 5 builds with 1 on the 01st so I should be free and clear to slap some more plastic together. Besides, my Ducks love Crickets. In fact, why wait? Let's just start it now and we can do one every month!? You people are crazy! Uhhh O.K. I'm in...

Being a patriotic Aussie, I should be particpating in this one; BUT, being a typical Aussie, if Im not working I will be on the drink for at least 5days straight over those days!
"Clarke and Watson will make 500 by lunch on the first day, then bowl England out twice by tea. Then we have 4 days to build models in peace"
Damien, your wrong on this one; Clarke wont even have a chance to bat, so strong will be the opening partnership!!

Ok that's great fellas. I'll get this submitted.
I'm sure there'll be even more interest as England take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series, then that 500 run partnership won't matter.
I think we'll all learn something about each others characters during the speed build, and it aint gonna be pretty

Hmmm, JP we might be in trouble for numbers here. It seems that there is an abundance of riff-raff hereabouts ignorant to the gentlemans game. Hopefully once the football finishes we might inspire a few to join the fray.
In any case, I say we go for it whether it becomes an official campaign or not.
Now, do you want to wield the willow first and I'll throw down a few of my inswinging medium pacers ??

Well can't leave Nick & Damian to go it alone for the Aussies. Bit of a bother that my annual leave finishes on 31/12/10 - and there is plentyof work lined up for me when I return.
5 day build sounds like something small - definitely not the Tamiya Lancaster done as G for George hanging in the AWM.
I have been reducing my stash with a New Years resolution of no kit purchases until QMHE (in August) so I might look for a CAC Boomerang then.
Ohh.......... and the cricket. Yep we'll win.

Numbers schmumbers. We can still have a bit of craic.
That's ten anyway. I'll sumbit it.
I wonder if there is a way to make a further award to the "side" with most finishers.
Work that out nearer the time.
What are the Aussies playing at losing to England at rugger?
What has happened to the greatest sporting nation on Earth?
The mighty Ghana awaits...
I'm not English BTW, I'm Irish living in Scotland.
But only for cricket English.
So for the World Cup I'm supporting any team in green, and anyone playing the cheating French.

Yep dunno what happened in Sydney tonight - certainly the English actually came out and played Rugby - although our scrum still didn't turn up. Anyway if we hadn't let them win by a point tonight they might not have come back to play again . Without labouring the point the French referee had an interesting interpretation on the rules.
Ghana on the other hand may be a bit of an uphill battle. Hopefully we can win (and win well) to keep our chances of advancing alive.
Perhaps the ribbon could be an urn on a background of the flag with the greatest number of finishers - if that makes sense - the Union Jack if more RAF finishers and the Australian Flag if the RAAF wins.

I have a 1/32 Mossie I'm dying to do in RAAF markings, and January is probably about the time I'll be able to get to it. Five days is nothin', I'll be able to get her done (since I'll be on holiday).
Count me in - but someone's gotta explain cricket to me...I grew up on an Indian reservation in NY playing lacrosse...perhaps a rules exchange is in order?
