Looks great, Hermon. The Stuka looks like it is fealing at home in the snow.

Hello there!
I had some time after Christmas, so I started the work on the SB-2. The Kit is a huge dissapointment, because it has a very poor fit. All surfaces have very small and nice rivets and panel lines, but because of the poor fit I will have to rescribe the whole plane.

Hermon, that is an awesome looking Stuka! I love the clean build, and the paint job is super. Great job.

Sorry to hear about the fit problems, Naseby. I have been tempted by this kit many times, but the ICM brand threw me of. You never know what to expect.
Hope you get a good build nonetheless.

@ Paul : The Lysender looks good and is tempting me, saw one at the LHS which could be mine
@Jesper : It gets worse. After filling and sanding and filling and sanding and slowly loosing fate the main parts are together. Now since the plastic is realy soft, the rescribing of panel lines became a nightmare. I keep asking myself why do I always buy this stuff ? Its not fun at all!

Paul your Lysander is coming together very nicely, and problems with the kit that we should know about?
Naseby, be strong my friend, be strong. I feel your pain as well, the F-82 I'm doing for the P-51 campaign has the same sort of problems.
You are doing a great job of overcoming the issues that you face there and it is looking good so far.
I suppose that is the compromise we face, buy a cheaper kit and deal with problems, or spend big $$ and get something that just falls together. Even though the F-82 is very frustrating, it has given me a great opportunity to develop some skills that I never needed to use on Tamigawa kits, and that is a good thing.
Keep up the good work here guys. I am a very negligent Campaign Leader here at the moment, but I have a few days off work now and intend to get back to my SkiBolt (among the 4,000 other Campaign builds I have going on).
Cheers, D

Thanks for the feedback Damian, we should start a "Built the worst pig you can find in the stash Campaign", your twins would definitely fall into this categori. The problem is, there is no other SB-2 out there

Quick question, how do you guys normally apply whitewash for scale aircraft?
The techniques used for scale armor seem a bit on the harsh side...

Never did on a plane. The last one I did was ages ago, loong before the hairspray method came along. So it was only thinned white whith a lots of dark shades and extensive chipping with the base colour (Panzergrau that was). Wish I could show you the result, but the kit is gone now.

Work is progressing slowly on the Tupolev, but the worst is done. The kit is ready for paint. I resignated on rescribbing all the panel lines and only did the rivet lines. I used Eduard masks, which are a real must for this one. But unfortunately they do not fit as expected, mainly on the front cupola. The best way is to ignore the instructions and try to fit the pieces by judgement. It takes time, but in the end every window has its mask.

Hi Jesper Ask and ye shall recieve. Here are some photos taken in early 1940 of a Stuka with skis somewhere in Eastern Europe. Or, were they taken on my front porch an hour ago?
There ya go. I wish my photo skills were better but it is what it is. Also the antenna has sagged a bit...........dunno why, but I probably should have fixed it before the picture taking session.

Wow I wish the view form the front of my place looked like that. Fantastic Stuka.
What scale is it ?

I may end up going that way Naseby. Btw, I agree with your comment on the soft plasitc and having to scribe. I have a few kits like that and keep wondering why I bought them in the first place and why I don't just get rid of them....

Brian, thanks for the nice words.
It's a Hasegawa kit in 1/48 scale and practically fell together out of the box.
Jeremy, my prefered method for white wash is this:
Paint the normal top coat colors - let dry - throw on a gloss sealer coat - let that dry - then lay on a thin layer of Tamiya flat white- let it dry - then use a Q-tip to rub off sections until I'm happy with it. The best part is, if I take off too much or don't like what I see I can spray on the white again and keep doing it till I'm happy with it.

I made a sprint and finished this one today. In the end I decided to make a white finish on a green over natural metal. First I mixed Tamiya silver with IJN Grey to get a faded aluminium in which the Tupolevs came of the assembly line. Then in field they were sometimes sprayed with green dots and lines, which I made with Tamiya deep green. On top of that came the flat white which I prayed in a way I think it would be after a long and hard winter war. The marking is made from leftovers, since the ICM transfers are horrible. I know the stars should have a silver outline, but I wanted to keep it simple.

Congrats Naseby, you've done a wonderful job on that little SB-2. That paint job is really good, and certainly gives the impression of a hard winter on the job !! The way you have presented the finished build is very creative as well, I like it a lot.
Thanks for joining in and taking the time to share your progress. That's what makes these Campaigns great, modelers from all over showing what they do and how they do it.

Great work all..
@Naseby, I wonder if that is the old Novo kit, no, probably not. MPM also did one ages ago.. That is more likely...
I have two options for this Campaign, an Il-2 on skis in 1/32 from Hobby Boss, or a 1/32 Revell (ex-Matchbox) Tiger Moth... Which way to go... Tiger Moth has rigging... I am all rigged out after the SE5.a... and I am staying well away from the Gotha at the moment for that reason...

Thanks for Your comments. Those are ICMs own moulds, the MPM kit is even worst.
