Thanks for the comment, Michael. I am also pretty satisfied with the weathering although in the end I did not have to courage to go all in and really give use the "battered up Tomcat" look
My build is now finished. An enjoyable build although the Monogram kit has it vices. Especially around the cockpit and the joint between the fuselage halves that run along each side of the nose.
Also I assembled the undercarrige before painting which was a mistake. My fault, not Monograms
Thanks to Justin for donating the decals. I will deifinitely use more of them on future Tomcats as they are super cool. I just love the skull and cross bones on a Navy fighter.
Pleasure to participate. Many great builds - although few have been uploaded to the gallery.
Looking to follow your race to the finish line, Magnus.

Very nicely done Jesper
Keep at it Magnus you might make it
I'm getting there.... The plane is finished and I'm just working on the weapon load out. as this is a last cruise Cat that I'm doing it will only be armed with the sidewinders and sparrows as the phoenix had been phased out by then.
I don't suppose anyone knows where I can get a 1/144 LANTIRN and some GBU-16's or a TARPS pod

Allen, you'll find all that lot in the newer release Dragon kits, and very nice they are but sorry all mine are accounted for.
Jesper, nice finish and nice build.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Appreciate it
The Monogram Tomcat is a nice and cheap kit - my next one will be better as I now know some of the pitfalls.
Looking forward to see more great builds for this campaign

Hey folks,
There's some great builds out there! Unfortunately I'm going to have to pull out of the campaign. Life and other distractions have gotten in the way and I just ran out of time.
I had a great kit sourced, as well as a great set of decals, I even got some US Navy ground crew! I'd planned to start back in April/May, 'as soon as' I'd finished outher kits. One too many campaigns I reckon! At least I get to add a 1/48 Tomcat to my stash!
Good luck on finishing those builds!
Eoin

Magnus - home stretch, you can do it!
Jesper - fine work there, great build
Eoin - sorry to hear and know what you mean. Hope to see your Tomcat around here soon.
Need to get a hurry up on myself - most of the major painting is done, now it's stuff like decals, washes, ordinance etc which seems to take lots of time. It's going to be close but will try my best to be done in time.
Good luck with your builds and happy modelling!

Sorry to hear that, Eion. On the other hand you have a great project waiting in the stash. Maybe there will be a Navy aircraft campaign or another carrier aircraft campaign in the future.
Thanks for the comment, Dermot.

Fine work Justin - really great finish and the weathering is ace.
And please don't apologise for all the pics; there's no such thing as a picture heavy post; they inspire and motivate me!
I promise I am not looking for an extension either
All the best,
Dermot

Justin! A very fine Tomcat with a nice paint/patchwork!
I'll soon have to make a try for the same kind of paintjob on mine...

Tomcats got the ball.... has a rough landing catching the No3 wire
Finished my Revell 1/144 D with the Fightertown VF-31 decals. I left some of the weapons off as I haven't decided on the final load out but I'm calling it finished for the purposes of the campaign
I've left the rear missile pallets off for the time being while I decide on the rest of the weapon load out.
Thanks for a great campaign especially with this year being the 25th anniversary of the Film Top Gun.
As always and comments, suggestions and critique is always welcomed

_viper_ 3/4 of a mile out...
roger ball
LSO screams for a BOLTER!
Whalloop!!!
_viper_ is in with a number 4 wire and one rough landing!
The weather(ing) almost ruined my day.
Sorry for the poor pics but it was early morning light.
The Hase 1/72 is a nice kit and with great level of detail OOB. A few areas could really use improvement in the kits engineering and the next one I already have on the bench will deserve a lot more attention, patience and steadiness. Also, this particular kit had very thick decals (it's a 1990's boxing) yellowed a bit as well and the paint on look even with Microscale stuff was difficult for meto achieve (let aside that for some unknown reason Hase sunset decal for the vertical rudders is a tad off scale). All in all it is ok if looked from a distance (arms length or more), up close has some ok parts and some flaws evident on others.
This one I had to rush a bit to turn it in before the deadline (my first ribbon!) but it was good to learn the ropes (I also have 4 more in my stash!).
Some great builds around here anyhow, great campaign guys! When is the next one?
Here are the pics - VF-111 Modex 200 - 1/72 Hasegawa Pac Fleet!

Nice one Nicola.
I have a problem with my tail hook, can someone give the order to erect the crash barrier. Just circling around to burn off some fuel.
All the best.

Nicola! Beautiful Tomcat!
Tim! We did our best !
I'll grab the chance to do one last entry in the thread, I'll continue finishing my Bombcat in the build blog!
I have decided that 2012 shall become a more disciplined build year. The strategy for 2011 was to just enroll in the campaigns that I realistically could manage but without discipline (I need to JUST build this one in between the campaign builds and so on...) it didn't work out very well...

Nice finish, Allen. Especially considering the scale.
Thanks for running a good campaign, Justin. It was fun to participate and see the many great builds.

Hi all.
Magnus such a pity you could not complete your build in time
I am calling this "Slugger" finished. Really enjoyed this build, the1/48 Academy kit is pretty good. The decals from Afterburners are superb. I think I may orientate my future builds around these decals sets. Thanks for an excellent Campaign Justin.
