So I'd like to propose a campaign. I don't know much about running a campaign but I think this could be a fun one.
Armies, air forces and navies across the world use a variety of frontline combat aircraft to maintain air supiriorty and provide assistance to the soldiers on the ground but they themselves depend on a variety of support aircraft to carry out their duties.
These support aircraft include:
Aerial Refueling
Transport
Logistics
Medical Evacuation
Reconnaissance
Training
Electronic Warfare & AWACS
Forward Air Control
Artillery Spotting
Search & Rescue
And many more, feel free to offer up suggestions.
The campaign would focus on these support aircraft, fixed wing and helicopters, of any era and any scale.
*****
So, what do people think? I don't believe there has been a campaign like this one for many years and it would offer everyone something different to model and certainty add a unique aircraft to the collection.
I'm thinking of a start date around March of 2012 to run for six months, plenty of time to give everyone a chance to choose a kit and clear the bench in the meantime.

I feel that "Support Aircraft" is an excellent campaign idea. I'm in, if it gets any support.

I agree. Believe it might be fun building one of the many "less glamourous" that keep any army going!
Time line sounds good too, so count me in, albeit not sure with what build ( Ju 52?? Something more modern ?? Recon??)
Cheers

I should think that for such a campaign, there is probably 100's of aircraft types that will fit the bill of 'Support Aircraft'. From the ealy days of aviation up until today. There's something for everyone.

Sounds like a great idea, wonder what people will drag out from under the dust. This will give me an excuse to build the Ju 290 I have laying about. So I am ready for take off, all I need is clearance.

I too have a Ju 290 gathering dust. Would love to build it. i'm in too

Wonderful to see people taking an interest.
There's a whole host of planes and helicopters that fit the bill, something for everyone.

I would like to go for this type of campaign especially if it dont start until March 2012. It will give me time to come up with something and to clear the bench of all the other campaigns that I'm signed up for

Ten months out-- plenty of time to make room on the workbench and plan the project. My first thought is a Carrier Onboard Delivery aircraft, modified from Hasegawa's S-3A Viking or an Academy TBF Avenger (already on my shelf anyway). There were also prototype KS-3 Viking tankers that weren't produced, but I don't know if we'd go into "what if's" here.
Still holding fast to 1/72 scale in my collection-- it limits the available kits and adds to the challenge of detailing, but it keeps the planes all comparable side-by-side.
I'm sure you all have plenty of ideas-- that's just where my thoughts are at the moment.
-Sean.
Edit: looking back, I see Vertigo's signature says he's already got a 1/72 Viking-- I'm guessing the Airfix and Hasegawa are related? Anyway, nice to see it.

Nice Idea for a campaign and something that I believe hasn't been done or suggested before (well not in the 5 years I've been here) so I may be up for this.

In an attempt to even out the campaigns for 2012 and onwards, the campaign administrators will decide when the campaign will start. I you get enought interest and submit it with your proposed dates then they will sort out the rest from there. I was thinking a start of March 2012 to run for six months?

I'm not sure if the Airfix and Hasegawa Vikings are related, the Airfix boxing is a bit dated I think. At least the box was a little battered.
My idea for the campaign, and my main inspiration, is this little gem from Fujimi.
Tanker
Thanks, I need 10 members interest before submission?

Looks like I need about three more.
Anyone else out there interested?
Wide array of options available including:
Aerial refueling,
Logistics,
Transport,
Medical Evacuation,
Reconnaissance,
Perhaps even electronic warfare and more I probably haven't thought of.

Hadn't thought about that but yes I think training aircraft would qualify as well, after all without trainers we wouldn't have the pilots in the first place.

Surely, there's a few more who are interested in building one example out of the multiple choices of Support Aircraft.
Cargo, Transport, Liaison, Tanker, Trainer, Artillery Spotter, Arial Recon, MediVac; and so on. Land or sea, they all require support.
Just a friendly "bump" for a good cause.

We just need 3 more for submission and there's a wide array of options available, enough to suit everyone I'm sure.

My husbands been talking to me about this one. He assures me its a perfect fit to motivate me with my tiny 1/144 C-115 Buffalo.
The only thing is, I've already removed the body and wing from the parts tree. Nothing else was done. Would it still be allowed in?
If so, I'll try for it.

Hey Vertigo,
Sign me up. I've a Chinook gathering dust that would fit the bill if choppers are okay ( I might even get adventurous and sling a Land Rover or artillery piece under it!
Cool idea,

There you go vertigo. I'm counting 10 different brave souls, not including your own handle. Time for you to learn all about campaign nursing.
Hope you do it! Good luck.

I'll submit it later today. What does everyone think on the name? Should we just leave it as Support Aircraft or come up with something more inspiring?

I've named it Support Aircraft, straight to point it is, and I've submitted it. Thanks to everyone who has shown interest so far.
By the way I just realized we missed Search & Rescue, a very important support service.
