That's really impressive
I keep trying to imagine the Southampton hull in the RAF museum with those wide silver wings on it.

Thank you Jessica
Wings are big and model has quite a bit of weight to it,
I will give a run down of the build soon.
Issues with build were of my own doing.

The RAF Museum's Southampton. I'd really love to see them rebuild the wings as well some day.

Hi Jessica
The RAF Museum Southampton was used as a house boat later in life?
Searching through photos on the internet most early RAF seaplanes with hulls made of wood look to have a dark flat dope/varnish finish( flat finish could be due to sea salt).
Hendon's Southampton looks like a clear varnish.

It's possible; many of them were used as cottages and the like. The gloss finish is very similar to how the Felistowes were finished. I suspect that the saltwater environment was very hard on it, which caused it to go flat very quicky in service. I know from boats that unless you're constantly sanding and varnishing the woodwork it goes dull. Since the RAF didn't have any Ordinary Seamen to scrape and paint, it's likely that the finsh was allowed to go dull. Since Hendon's Southampton hasn't seen any weather at all in the last 30 years it hasn't dulled.

By Tinbanger (Richard Tonge)
Mk1 Southampton.

Build Review:-
This kit was a many of first’s:-
Resin
Blogged build.
KOT’S Campaign.

I found that joints reinforced with 0.030” brass wire added and 5 min Epoxy worked for me .
Wings:- Were stable fore/aft but weak side to side and this gave me problems when doing the rigging, it was hard to keep tension on the lines even across the whole wing.
Instruction sheets:- There were some vague drawings and this required further research by builder.
I would recommended this kit for experienced builders.
Overall with all the firsts and my skill level I am happy with the way the aircraft turned out.
Would I build this again:- Yes!

Thank you.
Richard
