Thanks entoni!
First off i will give all the parts a good wash
and then get to work on the hull.
I have done some test rigging using black .007"(3 LB test)
fishing line, this may be heavy for 1/72 but it was
the smallest i could find to date.

Richard,
A very impressive list of "firsts" in your opening post! Welcome to our little world and compliments on your choice of subject, should be a very interesting build.
Suggestion; I've worked in all the popular scales over the years and believe the 3# test mono may be a little large for 1/72. (I use 4 and 6 lb. test for 1/32nd and it's on the edge of too large for some applications, especially the 6 lb.) I'd recommend you look for "Invisible Mending Thread". It's clear mono as well, much thinner, and I saw a spool of it at Walmart the other day with enough length to do a lifetime of kits for around $4. I have 2 rolls of it from the 1960s and it's still going strong.
Others of our Forum may see it differently however that's my recommendation for your "first" bout of rigging.
Cheers,
Lance

Hi lance.
Thanks I will check out the invisible thread at Walmart.
I am happy with the kit nice clean molding.
Wood hull colour needs some R&D, i have seen photos of
the hull at Hendon and it seems to be stained to light
(it was a used as a house boat!).
Most MK1 look like they have a flat stain on them.
Any way i will try to make this build a little more than out of the box.
I will get more from this group build than I can give back!
All for now

Good luck with all your firsts Richard!

I have built a resin AFV and a resin ship but haven't done an aircraft yet. I have a few in the stash and suppose I better have a go at one.

Cheers

Welcome, and what a subject, I love those old 'boats. I agree with Lance, invisible mending thread is perfect for smaller scales and works well but plan your rigging very early in your build so you can drill holes in the right places. It helps too if you can prethread some of the blind holes before assembling the hull

Hi Andrew
I picked up some invisible thread(60meters should be enough!!)over here in the UK.
Good idea about the pre-drilling.
Looking forward to getting back home next week and back to the modeling bench.

May I suggest invisible mending thread? That is thinner. Or copper wire is available in very thin gauges.. thinner than the above.

Hi Warren
Welcomed my first grand child into the world tuesday!
I will start the build in the next week.
I have picked up .0015'' and .0031'' thead and will do some tests with it.
Being 1/72 scale not sure how much of the cockpit will be
seen,i like to spend more time on what can be seen than hidden, seems a lot of nice work being done only to be sealed up!

Hi all.
One thing I have learned with resin parts is to use epoxy
rather than super glue.
The wing parts that I super glued were not very strong(the surface was to smooth), I had to clean off all the super glue
and then I drilled #80 holes at random on both half's to give the epoxy something to grab.
I have drilled 0.036"X 5/32"deep holes at locating pins and sockets and added 0.032"X 1/4"Brass rod and then epoxy.
This has made for a strong joint.

Richard,
Are you certain you're not a Texan my friend? But seriously excellent build thread to date my friend. Very impressive interior details in such a tiny package. A tip of the hat to you and all the other builders of 1/72 scale.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
