Like I said previously, I was post-facto not happy with some of the work on the body. It just didn't really match the look of the real item, nor the drawings I have. So.........

Going to go ahead and finish it as a V-1 after all, as I've found that the majority of the American made JB-2's had a different front engine support fairing, and don't feel like changing that now. Next time I pick up a FROG kit that contains one of these, I'll do it as a Loon ^_^

If you've forgotten any campaign date, don't forget that you can always go look on the Campaigns page to find the start and finish dates. In the case of Hangar Queen, it runs all year, finishing on Dec 31.

We're getting there! All the sub-assemblies are ready for decals. Obviously I am having to decal the beast before I attach the folded radome and wings, open hatches and canopy, and not forgetting the FOD covers and access ladder. I have scratch built a couple of "wing props" (for want of a better word) after having a good look at Duxford's Sea Vixen.

All in all, I'm well on course to finish this before the end of the month. Cheers everyone!

Moving along to the second of our intrepid duo....

Managed to get a start on the FROG Spit XIVe from the double boxing.

Wings, of course, rescribed. Little trouble encountered, except that the cannon and MG were a bit too far inboard (throwing off a few panel lines) and the ailerons extending too far towards the wing tip (easily rectified).

A modicum of cockpit details were thrown in and good ol' Johnnie from the Airfix spares plunked down to pilot the beast. It's enough for me this time, as most of it won't be seen whether I vac-form a canopy or not. Need to add a wee touch of shading to the face before closing it up; definitely not my best figure job.

Molded in exhaust lumps were removed, but realized I don't have properly sized plastic to replace them with in my bins; looks like I have to make the trip into Ocala for supplies.
Hopefully I can and soon, or else this puppy isn't going to make the deadline.
The white tubing in the nose is tubing, inside of tubing, ready to accept tubing....from the propeller shaft. The kit parts looked very iffy to me, and I want the prop to spin freely with air applied to it for finished photos.

That's about it. Have a good Memorial Day celebration (for those of you in America).

Excellent work gents, please do carry on without worrying about a hard deadline. campaign close dates have been a bit squishy recently, if another weekend is needed please take it.

.... Aaaaand I'm done! This build was certainly a rollercoaster, a lot of ups and downs, but I got there in the end. I had to try a few new things, so I've learnt new techniques, and I have thrown everything at this kit, and I am over the moon with the result.

Cheers Everybody!

oh man, that's staggering! Has been an education for us watching you get her done as well.

May I suggest a model of the month entry?

Hi All!
Here is my finished entry:-

I made the intake covers to hide the lack of engine details.

I have made little progress recently on the A4 except snapping off the refueling probe and filling a huge gap on the nosewheel door side. After having to repair the canopy and the snapping episode I am rapidly losing the will to continue but will persevere but it won't be pretty.

Nicely done Richard, I do like those British cold war era jets.

Mike, I sympathize, you were working on a very short timeline, and combined with a couple of irksome setbacks like that is enough to derail any project. For me at least, for- well, lets not say forever - If you decide to carry on to the finish straight ways Id be happy to give out more ribbons, that applies to others as well... but if not, well that's what hanger queen campaigns are for.

And to all who participated, and observed and commented, thanks for another illuminating and interesting airplane model campaign.

Thanks to you too, Jon, it was a really interesting campaign. I did learn that some Frog kits weren't the abominations that everyone has told me that they were. I hope everyone enjoyed this one as much as I did. And speedy work on getting the ribbons awarded.

Thanks Jonathan. I think I will call it a day on the A4 and move on to the FAA campaign.

Thanks Jon, both for the campaign and the model, now gone to its final home in RAF Topcliffe. The Mossie turned out well, despite some faults in the kit and the effects of age. Looking at the finished models I think that the results from the old moulds and the work put in are stunning. well done everybody.

Sorry I haven't been around much gents, things went a little pie-shaped over the last month or so. I realize this campaign is over, but I figure I may as well post this update here.
The Spitfire that goes with this V-1 has...stalled. May not ever get finished. But the Buzz Bomb will!

-------------------------------------------------------------

The Doodlebug was primed and then preshaded with a dark grey, and then shot all over with RLM 76 (Vallejo Model Air 71.046). This was followed by a slightly blotchy application of RLM 71 (VMA 71.015) to the tops of the wings and tail planes. Then, the fun began!!!!!

The Vallejo RLM 71 was thinned down 1:1 with their proprietary airbrush thinner, a smidge of flow enhancer, and tidbit of retarder stirred into the a/b cup with a brush. Thus we did tackle the mottling*! Mostly with success, IMHO, though most people scoff and say "It cannot be done with those darned Vallejo paints!!!!". Well, it CAN be done, one just has to be careful and keep the paint stirred and the airbrush cleared. After the mottling was where I (mostly) wanted it, a thin layer of the same color was shot to blend it in to the body.

*I chose a mottled appearance for the body based on a few wartime German photos I came across on the interwebs, which show a streaky/mottled application of the dark upper color as opposed to the usual museum scheme of a solid coloring.

Should finish this up in the next few days, then move on to some other project. Thanks for looking, if you have.

Nice work Erik! A shame you couldn't finish the Spit in time, but real life will intrude.

Erik, that looks excellent. Nice airbrush work, on top of the scratch mods you have already done.

I understand well about time issues. I have been on the road and havent been able to do any model building at all since I finished the 707 in this thread, life does have a way of crushing out time for play. If you get that buzzbomb to where you can call it done and put some pictures in the gallery, (I believe the gallery is still open for posting), Id be happy to give you the ribbon for it.

I think I'm done messing with this one, boys.

The FROG Fieseler Fi-103, or V-1 Buzz Bomb.

Cheers
