Hi everybody,
after taking part in Hangar Queen III which was great fun and satisfying, I'm in this time, too.
Had to stop my building of a A-1 H Skyraider of the South Vietnam Air Force because of total decal desaster. Now I'm waiting for the replacement. In the meantime I will finish the "SPAD" for this campaign.

Another Hangar Queen Campaign, sign me up!
Having moved 3 times in the last 5 years, there are plenty of shelf of shame 'hangar queens'.. oh who am I kidding...
I had TONS of these albatrosses (albatrosi??) circling even back then!
Inital thoughts are the Revell B-1 with the Two Bobs decals "Live Free of Die". A friend at work gave me the kit, her brother is a ground crew/maintenance guy and it got started and sat and sat and sat..
As it stands now. The Tamiya German Grey was leftover in the airbrush from an armor porject and was intended as just a basecoat over the hellacious putty work it took to even get this far. I'll go over with lightened coats of the 'right' paint later.
It's the older boxing with all the cruise missiles hnaging all under it and the bomb bay full of them too.
It wont be 'accurate' but I do like the look with all those ALCM hanging underneath. Plus I wont have to scratch a 'real' bombbay this way.

PS I fully reserve the right to pull some other all but forgotten kit off the shelf and finish it, if it strikes my fancy. So dont get your hopes up on this one.

Hi,
I also had a lot of fun building 2 long time stranded kits during HQIII.
Amongst a few still stranded projects, got a Eduard's bf 110 C initially built during the Zerstorer campaign but not finished in time and basically gathering dust inside a box since then.
here are a few photos taken back then
as you can see a few mishaps happened here and there
back then I painted it based solely on the decal sheet's profile, but a few days ago finally caught up with a photo of the real thing (below) and I guess some work is needed to bring the camouflage more similar to the actual plane.

Can this project be qualified as a proper Hangar Queen or is it too near completion to be considered so?

Nothing is too complete; If you have a model which only needs one decal put on to finish it, it's still a hangar queen.

Hi, here are some new pictures. I have two bombs for the wing stations waiting and of course, the replacement decals.
I overpainted the others, because they declined to get off after a thorough soaking in the kitchen sink.
The soaking produced a surprising but interesting side-effect: The paint got somewhat blotchy which I don't mind so much, because it gives a used, but not too weathered look. What do you think?

looks exactly like the pattern produced by the steam jenny applied carelessly.
A young inexperienced sailor can do alot of damage very quickly with one of these!!

A clean desk is a sign of a sick mind.
Now you have to go to a swap meet or trade with a buddy to get a started kit to finish!

Jonathan I am definitely no paragon!! I don't want to start any new kits just yet to create any hanger queens..
Moving 2100km is an incentive not to create anymore fragile items..

Your not wrong about the price, it's easily the most expensive kit I own. The main reason I havnt finished it is the lack of confidence with resin.

I don't know why, it looks amazing so far. I bet its a heavy old beast too!
I would be concerned about how the resin would respond in the heat of an Ozzie summer though, I would be terrified of warpage.

my SPAD is somewhat completed, now I have to wait a little for the decals. They are quite old and I detected that some got a little yellowish. So I pinned them on the window and let the sun do its work.
Some stencils from the Hasegawa kit are already placed.

HQ campaigns are indeed drivers to pull out some great unfinished kits laying in the dark corner of the shelves, just look at those shown here already
