I started it earlier today and then by chance saw this campaign. Progress so far is just prepping a few parts for painting.

Cheers

Nice project![]()
building kits out-of-the-box is fun and all, but model building is most interesting, imho, when you have the narrative history of what you are building in front of you.
Jonathan: love your P3, I had the privilage to serve on those during my enlistment. The 2 bunks and galley were a God send.
Nick: watching your Spit build has made me want to go out and pick up an Academy kit.

Ive made a start on these P-3Bs.
In general, I don't build combat aircraft. Orions can carry torpedoes, but these ones carry only a load of 16 grams of lead ballast epoxied in place.
In this scale there is not reason to paint or detail the interiors, you can just get a glimpse of color through the tiny windows. The instructions call for orange upholstery, I dont know how accurate that is, but it should add interest to the finished model.
Airframe major assembly complete. This is a good quality kit and just a small amount of joint fairing will be needed.
I should say I have a specific historical interest in these aircraft. I am building an airport model of Bucholz Army Airfield on Kwajalein, a US Military base where my family lived when I was a child in the 1960's.
here's what I have so far
there are some more pictures in this gallery, if anyone is interested.
RAAF Orions visited Kwajalein from time to time.
Nick, it looks good from up here also keep up the good work.
