Hi all. Bump time on this topic and a potential change of plans !

It has been suggested that we set this up as an Aeroscale Campaign rather than on the P-47 SIG site, so I'm throwing it out there . . . .

In celebration of the recent release of 2 new books co-authored by Peter Randall and our own Nigel Julian (Lampie), I would like to propose a 56th Fighter Group or Zemke's Wolfpack dedicated Group Build.

Possible start date January 1, 2016 if that suits Admin.
Standard rules and regulations for Aussiereg Group Builds apply, please see below:

1. Any scale, it just has to be a P-47 with 56th FG markings
2. Hangar Queens are welcome, because they belong on the shelf, not hidden away in a box!
3. Build can be OOB, or use as much AM as you like.
4. Build as many kits as you wish, but only 1 ribbon will be awarded per person.
5. Minimum of 2 progress shots must be posted in the official campaign thread plus a minimum of one shot of the completed build in the campaign gallery. Please feel free to set up your own Build Log thread as well.
6. Dioramas welcome but not required.
7. Most important rules of any AussieReg Campaign, have fun, enjoy your build, share your progress with us all.

So far we have interest from the following:
Yours Truly
Nige (Lampie)
Andy (Betheyn)
Don (Lakota)
Richard (Tinbanger)
Darren (DarrenDickerson)
Torsten (BlackWidow)

Any other takers?

Links to info on the 2 books below, just in case you haven't seen them !

56th Part 1

Zemkes Wolfpack

Hmmmmmmm. 250 plus views and no comments. I thought we might generate a bit more interest than that!

Maybe it's just that everybody is too busy reading those new books

Thought long about this, but I have once tried the Italeri P-47, which miserably failed, so I need revenge.

Building a (bare metal) P-47 with black and white D-day markings is high on my wish list, so I will give a go at either the Academy or Tamiya P-47 in 1/72 scale.

I thinking of doing a 1/72 Tamiya P-47D Razorback also.
Take care,

It might be that the start date is stated as January 1, 2015! I would be up for this but the reason that I haven't put my name down is that I never finish a model that I enter in a campaign; the other reason is that, in my opinion there are far too many campaigns. Now don't get me wrong they would be great but the blogs are contained within the campaign threads which means that if you don't keep up then you will miss something, this in turn makes viewers less likely to comment because finding all the blog posts within the thread is a nightmare! If the blogs were started in there own right then a) they would be easy to follow and b) there would be many more post on Aeroscale.

As it is many just don't bother to comment even on individual blogs

If this is in fact due to start on the first of January 2016 I may just be in

All very valid points Mal!

Ok, proposed start date sorted.
How about we add a further rule that each build has to have a separate dedicated build log, similar to the KOTS Campaigns on the Early Aviation forums? Perhaps a 12 month Campaign to encourage some larger scale builds, more detailed builds with AM goodies or even dioramas?

Thoughts?

I might join, I come to find out that a pilot that shares my last name was shot down in one of Frank Kibbies P-47D by a Fw190....which are indecently my two favorite aircraft to model LOL

That gives us 10 and maybe 11, thanks Mal and Scott.

I will put some thought into the Rules and Regs to expand and extend this Group Build and post them here shortly for comment before I submit officially.

Ok folks, proposal below, please check it out and give me your thoughts:

56th Fighter Group P-47 Operation 2016
Start date January 1, 2016 with 12 month duration.
Standard rules and regulations for Aussiereg Group Builds apply, with a few extras, please see below:

1. Any scale, it just has to be a P-47 with 56th FG markings
2. Each build MUST have a dedicated Build Log thread here in the Aeroscale forums, title to conform as follows:
56th FG P-47 Operation - (Builders Username)
3. Minimum of 2 progress shots must be posted in the official campaign thread plus a minimum of one shot of the completed build in the campaign gallery.
4. Hangar Queens are welcome, because they belong on the shelf, not hidden away in a box!
5. Build can be OOB, or use as much AM as you like.
6. Build as many kits as you wish, but only 1 ribbon will be awarded per person.
7. Dioramas encouraged, but not required.
8. Most important rules of any AussieReg Campaign, have fun, enjoy your build, share your progress with us all.

So far we have interest from the following:
Yours Truly
Nige (Lampie)
Andy (Betheyn)
Don (Lakota)
Richard (Tinbanger)
Darren (DarrenDickerson)
Torsten (BlackWidow)
Jelger (Spaarndammer)
Chris (c4willy)
Mal (Holdfast)
Scott (SEDimmick)
Joel (Joel_W)

I am keen to run with the 12 month duration as I said earlier to encourage some large scale builds, AM frenzies and dioramas. Looking at the current list of Group Builds the January starting slot seems to be available.

I would really encourage some research and inclusion of pilot and aircraft details and images. Nige has provided us with the perfect starting point, but I'm sure we can really fill out each Build Log and make this really interesting.

I've given some thought to what I would like to do, small diorama with a 1/48 P-47 on a hardstand being refulled by one of the new Tamiya 1/48 refuellers. Hopefully 12 months can see me through !

Nice that we can start the group build.

I bought today the book of Nigel Julian, Peter Randall and Zbigniew Kolacha about the 56th Fighter Group (part 1). Excellent book, which will give me loads of inspiration. Decals are provides as well...Nice!

Now I have to find a kit, preferably a P-47D Razorback. It seems that these razorbacks are hard to find... Plenty of bubbletops around though.

I just finished a P-47D from the 9th U.S. Airforce here on Aeroscale but since it doesn't start till January I can take another stab at a P-47D. Last time it was the Hasegawa kit that was the victim now I think it will be the Tamiya P-47D Razorback in 1/48 Scale.

Jesper and Dave, great to have you on board.

Ok folks, that gives us 14 starters, time to submit since nobody seems to have any objections to the Rules and Regulations.

Damian (Aussiereg)
Nige (Lampie)
Andy (Betheyn)
Don (Lakota)
Richard (Tinbanger)
Darren (DarrenDickerson)
Torsten (BlackWidow)
Jelger (Spaarndammer)
Chris (c4willy)
Mal (Holdfast)
Scott (SEDimmick)
Joel (Joel_W)
Jesper (SGTJKJ)
Dave (Totalize)

I will get the formalities sorted and Michael will notify us once we have an enlistment page raised.

Please feel free to start posting info and images in this thread as a prelude to our start in January. I really think this subject deserves a lot of attention.

For those who haven't seen it, we have a dedicated 56th FG forum on the P-47 SIG pages HERE which is packed with information.

I will build 2 Thunderbolts in this campaign. First a P-47 M "Lookin' Fer Trouble" and then a P-47 D "Anamosa 2", both from the 63rd FS/56th FG and surprisingly both have the same registration (UN-B). Kits will come from Tamiya and decals are from Aeromasters "Wolf Pack Pt. V"

But one question about the rules 2 and 3. Why do we need to post WIP photos in the campaign thread when each one of us must (oh I hate that word in my hobby .... ) open a build blog? That would be double. I would really prefer not to open a build blog and post the progress pics in the campaign thread .... Any arguments?
