after finishing my Dornier Do 217 E-5 (to view: https://archive.kitmaker.net/forums/241359&page=4#2077894 I will start my next project. This time it will be Revells Fokker D-VII in 1/48.

This will be it:

I think the plane is well known enough and doesnt need introduction.

What I want to practice on in this build are three things:
1. Wood grain effects
2. Rigging
3. Shading and decolouration effects

For rigging this is a nice subject because there is not so much to do (for a WW1 aircraft).

Maybe I will do some scratch building in the cockpit and on the motor but I am not sure.

I will build the Herman Goering version... not because I like the guy... but because of the white finish. My challenge will be to make that as interesting as possible.

So due to my own stupidity I accidentally crushed my build when organizing my model bench.
The kit is back in the box until I can forget about my own stupidity and give it another go.

The BE2 has been quietly plodding along, and has gone from lower wings and tail assembled

However as you can see, the masking for pre-shading is done, ready to shoot paint. All joints between flying surfaces are very weak so all will be pinned, drilling for pins is done.

Hi fellow campaigners!

Time for me to throw myself into this campaign. Since it's my first time dealing with rigging wires, I'm building Eduard's optimistically titled: Roland C. II weekend edition.


Sorry about the photo orientation. This happens because Apple and Microsoft think there is something to be gained by not making their stuff to work with the other guy's stuff properly.

I just opened the box today and pulled the sprues from the bags. I think I'm going to have to order some Spandau jacket PE for these guns.

I'm sure the gun parts will arrive before I need them.

Not really sure how to weather this puppy. Most pictures I see show an amazingly clean thing. I may just leave this one mint instead of trying to make everything look worn.

hi all, i am still in this campaign... i just have very very slow internet at the moment so no pictures. just the last few markings to go and then final assembly of the top wing and rigging.

Hi Everyone!
Took my Roland CII to the paint shop and decided on a 2-color scheme. I know in the early flying combat years, the Germans used green and brown before changing to green and lavender, before finally going lozenge. Of course, if anyone wants to correct my antiquated knowledge... please feel free.



Paints used were artist acrylics from tubes. Then, the entire aircraft received a coat of Future. Now, it'll get a couple days to cure.



The upper wings are only dry fitted. Hopefully when it comes time to glue them, I can do it without glue blobs becoming prominent structures under the wings.



Next steps are: Detail painting > Decals > weathering > Drilling and inserting the rigging > And final assembly.

Your Albatross is really looking nice!

My Roland on the other hand is kind of ruined. But I will go on with it as a learning experience.


I replaced the guide horns with brass rod. It may be too thin from the side view, but the kit guide horns were basically heavy blocks of plastic with no aerodynamic cross section at all.


For the rigging, I drilled shallow holes into the wings and fuselage where I thought appropriate and put a dab of CA in the hole, held the end of the EZ Line in place, and prayed for about 20-seconds that it would hold. Under no circumstances will I drill holes all of the way through the wings. Just can't countenance it.


I have one other WWI aircraft in my stash. Also in 1/48 scale. Hopefully it will turn out better.

Thank you for hosting this campaign! I'm calling this Roland done but only just.

I had a bit of a painting accident that sapped my will to complete the model. Fixing it would have taken me even farther back, and I just want to chalk it up to experience. I think if I am going to do much more WWI aircraft, I'm going to need a bigger scale.

Anyway, on to the photos!
