In the process of running the Regia Aeronautica campaign it was suggested we have an ANZAC campaign which I for one am all for. I think we could open it up to just about anything ANZAC. While this may hold appeal to us Kiwi's and Aussies would the wider community be interested?

For those of you who'd like to look it up the acronym was first coined in the first world war and stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corpes. Now I think we could set this for anything ANZAC related in Both World wars. This would cover anywhere that Aussies and Kiwis were fighting so North Africa, Europe, Italy, Greece, Crete, and the Pacific in World war 2, Western front and the Gallipoli campaign in World War 1. Or anywhere Kiwi's and Aussies were fighting and dying.

Thoughts gentlemen?

Sounds interesting since there so many options to consider. If it starts later in the year I would be a starter.

cheers

Damn. I swore off campaigns this year to try to clear the decks of some hangar queens, but how could I possibly ignore this one?

I'm in.

Excellent start! Four so far, five if you include me! Even more pleasing to see interest outside of Aussie and NZ! Nice Damian is that your Granddads campaign medal?

The possibilities are quite Stunning. Sir Keith Park a Kiwi was an air ace in the great war and the man many feel is responsible for wining the Battle of Britain.

The LRDG were all Kiwi's to start with as when offered to the Aussies they had no men they felt they could spare. General Freyberg agreed on the grounds that he could have the men back when needed. All were drawn initially from divisional cavalry. The British general staff wanted us colonials as they felt the average British Tommy wasn't self reliant enough to cope with the desert. And once we proved that it could be done we then taught the South Africans the Indians and eventually the Brits. It was completely voluntary and there was ALWAYS a waiting list of men wanting to join.

The 2nd NZEF was the only completely mechanized unit in the 8th army and produced the only combatant recipient of a VC and bar Captain Charles Upham. (Yes that's TWO VC's people!)

There are plenty of Aussie subjects as well as I'm sure Damian would only be to happy to tell you about. Major Clive Caldwell springs to mind off the top of my head.

Here's hoping we can generate enough interest to get this off the ground.

I still have a few Aussie planes in my stash, but limited on my Aussie armour.
Semi annoyingly, I did recently finish a Valentine in kiwi markings for the AFV Club campaign!

I haven't done a campaign as yet, so this could be an ice breaker.
Also only one build on at the moment, so there's capacity [cough].
I'll give it a go. Timely with ANZAC day shortly of course.

Hi Spud I agree about the timing and I'd be thrilled to have you onboard as your first campaign. Although I do warn you they are apparently highly addictive!

Yeah, pretty much.

Not really keen on doing another valentine so soon after having built the AFV club Valley and a Bronco Bishop, and am in the middle of a dual Spitfire build, so I think my Aussie Spit Vb is out.

That leaves me with my Ca-12 and Ca-13 Boomerangs.

Yes, Chris, this is his Gallipoli medal, he also served on the Western Front. I am currently transcribing his diaries and going through a lot of memorabilia. Fascinating stuff.

My great uncle was also a WWI Anzac, 2nd Light Horse, KIA at Mt Kemmel on the Western Front in April 1918.

I would be in with one of my 1/48 Boomerangs.

That's positively awesome Damian! My granddads are English and I have no idea of the war service they've rendered as all the information is obviously in England with all my aunts uncles cousins etc. I envy you the opportunity to hold a little bit of history in your hands.

Okay gents that makes 8 interested so far two more and I can send this off to the powers that be. Once we get the campaign approved we can hash out the time frame, ribbon, parameters for subjects etc.

Speaking of such We have a brief outline anything Aussie or NZ related from both wars any type of model so figures, aircraft, ships, tanks, armoured vehicles and soft vehicles. Time frame would be 1914-19 (ANZAC troops were still active in Palestine till 1919) and 1939-45.

I'm open to suggestions regarding both time frame and subject.

Time frames and subjects sound good to me.

There was also an ANZAC element in Vietnam when NZ artillery fired in support of the Australians at the Battle of Long Tan.

Hi Linus yes that was in the back of my mind. We had a very small presence in Vietnam that ended much earlier than the Aussie involvement. I'd be more than happy to include Long Tan into the campaign. Anyone know if the kiwis and Aussies were in support of one another in Afghanistan?

Hi Chris,
I'm planning to build a Revell-Ventura of an RAAF Sqn based in England in 1942/43 in the near future. Would that suit for this campaign? What time frame are you thinking of? I'm interested.

Oh, and I would open the campaign for all other campaigns your nations fought in. So Korea, Vietnam, Irak, Afghanistan etc. might interest some other guys, too. What do you think?

Hi Torsten yup that works fine. I'm thinking about opening it up to cover all of the conflicts that our armed forces have been in.

Time frame could be later this year but will depend on when the admins want this to run.

Okay by my count that's ten of us! I'll submit this to the admins and see when they feel this should run.

I've submitted the campaign for approval. I have also started a thread over at Armorama to encourage the participation of our armoured colleagues. I've tentatively put the start for August of this year ending in April of next year.

We also need a campaign medal I'm open to suggestions gentlemen! Bring them on! Could we make a gif of Damian's granddads Gallipoli medal? Would it show up that small?

Timing works for me. The proportion of the medal won't work for a ribbon. I will see what else I have that might work.

Cheers, D
