On my Skyhawk, I put some more plumbing work into the already nicely molded wheel wells.

The fit of the Fujimi Skyhawk is a bit fiddly, as Fujimi made moduls for several Skyhawk versions.

After the primer revealed no major issues, I started with painting.

I have not counted how often I broke off the small slat fittings but, it must have been five times already .

After sealing and decaling, a dark wash of oil color was applied.

Now, off for some more weathering!

Oliver, your A4 is really looking nice. I keep looking for a 1/48 kit, but the prices scare me away.

The A-1 will be in Airforce SEA scheme.

@Bob - Athou the 1/48 Skyhawk from Hasegawa is pricy, its the best kit out there - worth every cent.

@ Franck : You have realy made an unconventional choise of subject and a very interesting one. The French - British - Japanese "relationship triangle" in Indochina is something that dont gets portraited in plastic too much.

@ Oliver, really cool looking A-4 there. Cannot wait for the finish. I love the A4, but the kits are so expensive.

@ Linus, nice choice. I did not know there was a kit for the M107, but I am not an expert in armor.

Hi everyone!

I am a bit late to the party but here is my entry. Academy 1/48 F-4C Phantom II



I started timidly this weekend trying to remove the seam from the canopy. What a mess! Normally takes me longer to make a serious mistake. I'll try to get Pledge tomorrow. Any advise?

@Oliver - crazy job with detailing Skyhawk:) I probably wouldn't dare to try it even in 1/32
@Linus - good progress, but it seems you need a bigger room for this barrel
@Franck - what an unusual subject! Cockpit & engine look good.
@Carlos - I can't wait to see progress. This kit is on my "to buy" list

Now a short update on A-7D.
I managed to clean bad seam mark on canopy. It looks acceptable now . Apart of this a short but steady progress. A very simple cockpit is assembled and fuselage is now sealed:




Now all-favourite part of hobby awaits me ... filler and sanding

Carlos I've used a number of things to smooth out an oopsie on a canopy but the best I've found is really fine, and by fine I mean really fine 1200 grit and up, sanding mesh or sand paper (wet and dry used in panel beating) for best results use it wet stops the paper clogging with plastic.

Chris, thanks for advise. I kind of did it, perhaps I should have persisted a bit more but I ended up with the canopy being a big cloudy. I read somewhere that a dip in Future or similar would make canopy shiny again. I used Aqua Gloss but the result was not good at all. (I am a bit temperamental and I chuck the Aqua gloss in the bin after the second attempt.) I removed Aqua gloss and sand again (micromesh set ) and now I have my slightly cloudy canopy back.

Do you guys use Pledge or similar to make canopies super shiny or polishing compounds or simply careful sanding? Can anyone recommend a nice product that I can get in the UK?

If not I will persist with the sanding...

Carlos, after I clean the plastic and let dry I will dip the canopy and clear parts into Future then using tweezers I will lay the parts on some paper towel cover with a large enough bowl or anything that will keep dust from alighting on the future and let dry for at least an hour if not more. This is done before any building, painting, or other Assembly.

After dry for a day the canopies are easy to handle, tape, glue, or cover with tape then cut to allow the frame to show when paining.

Carlos, it looks like they changed the product naming again, I thought it was Pledge Multi Floor Finish, now it's Pledge Floor Gloss. Past hola!, my Spanish is non existent, but it doesn't look like they carry a similar product on their Spanish site.

I have had good success in using ever finer grits of sanding pads to clean up a canopy. But, up to 8,000 grit it all still looks cloudy, the 12,000 grit turns it shiny. Try alternating sanding directions as you change grits. Left to right for one grit, top to bottom for the next grit. That way the sanding scratches get broken down as you get finer.

Novus also has a plastic polishing set out there somewhere that could help.

It looks good, Carlos. Molding line is gone.



On th pic you can still see some part of it on the frame (I'll clean that one later after assembly.

Bob, Mark, thanks for the recommendations. I am living now in the UK and I got yesterday Pledge floor gloss. I have been all these years without Future/Klear secretly wanting to have one bottle in my stash...

Unfortunately I went to the pub after work last night and I was feeling a bit delicate by the time I went home as to try it. Tonight is the night! I will let you know how it goes.

Radek, that looks perfect! I have the feeling I should have similar results now if I wouldn't have been playing trying to smooth out the Aqua Gloss varnish in the inside of the canopy.

I've tried "excercising" with varnishes on canopy while building Buffalo for PTO campaign. It almost costed me a model . Good thing is I achieved very satisfactory results in removing gloss varnish with Gunze's Levelling thinner and isoprophyl alcohol (but it was Tamiya Gloss varnish).

I haven't had time to start an airplane I wanted to build. As time is winding down I will enter a figure.

This is Verlinden's 1/35 US Seal figure. The other figure is for the "Stand Bold" campaign.
I bought this kit at a swap meet years ago and am happy I get to use it.

I am starting to get worried, I am in the middle of week two and I haven't finished the cockpit yet, and the box is still full of plastic.

I am stuck now with a seam inside the air intake. Classical one that I couldn't see very well on plastic but it does stand out when painted in glossy white. I can sand it from the outside so tonight it will be mine!
