Hi All,
After all the work done, all that needed to be done was some touch up of the red and blue. Using low tack masking tape I did the red, and while removing the tape I noticed that the decals were trying to lift. So I lightly applied the tape for the blue areas, and tried my best to get some coverage. Removal of this tape also was pulling off the fragile decals.
AT this point I called it a done deal.
So off came the masks from the canopy, and to add insult to injury, the canopy had become cracked, and the control stick had broken free of the plane and "Bob" the pilot, only to be hopelessly lodged behind the pilots headrest!
So here it is, Academy's 1/48 F-16A Thunderbird...
My overall thoughts on this kit are this:
Pro's - fabulous recessed detail, looks great in the box, and very affordable.
Con's - Nothing fits, putty every seam, decals are horrible.
conclusion: If you want to do a 1/48 F-16 Thunderbird, pay a little more for the Hasegawa kit, I know it goes together nicely and the decals are great including a decal for the pilots helmet. I imagine the Tamiya kit would also be worth it. The Monogram kit also is superior to this kit regarding fit and decals.
Now onto something a bit more rewarding! We've only got a little over a month left on this Hangar Queen build, so get em wrapped up, or feel free to slide right into Hanger Queen 9! I know I'll be here!!
