Hi Everyone,

Good stuff happening here. Lap Man, nice finish, I like how you did the panel lines. Pasi, interesting to see a Pup in Japanese livery. Look forward to seeing the rigging. Russell and Stephen, good work so far, you're getting close!

I seem to have gotten my upload issue resolved, however, I have no clue which change was the one that actually did it! I will admit I wasn't too thrilled doing this kit at first, though looking at the pictures, it turned out quite nice given my mediocre skills. On the fun meter I'd give it a 7, only because of the fit issues related to the sprue gates. This is my second Hobby Boss build, and I think with a few more under my belt, the sprue gate issue will become easier to deal with.

Wow, you guys are motoring along very nicely. The builds just get better everytime.

John that Hawk looks way better than the Matchbox one I am doing!! I have it at paint stage and will show you my shame soon....

We're getting down to the wire (so to write? ) and my old Airfix Hurricane has been a stubborn beast! The internal pieces refused to fit without exhaustive trimming and sanding and the fuselage halves were warped in odd ways and even emersion in scalding water and heat barely has resulted in them approximating what would be normal. Ahhhh, the joy of this hobby? Here's a few images of where it stands today after copious but judicious use of Tamiya Extra Thin and a "few" persuading clamps.

Obviously my ministrations of the body somewhat worked as the wings section actual dry fit quite surprisingly well. Now to tackle a few seams with putty, sanding discs and Dremel! Then we'll see whatever new surprises this kit has waiting for me. Do I recall someone mentioning a slight extension for this campaign???

Awesome work on your Hawk John.
Looks really good in the Malaysian colours.
Had to look at the first photo twice though. Looks like it has a couple of huge jet intakes!

I have next week off work, so planning on using the time to get some paint on. Currently looking at what colours to use. With RAF subjects I typically stick with Humbrol as they're usually much more accurately matched to BS paints. However, 157 Azure Blue is proving to be a problem as it's way off. Far too dark. Hopefully I have something a bit closer in amongst all my other paints.
Could really use some colour chips

Very nice work Franck shame about the decals though, any chance you could take them off and get some AM replacements?

Gonna be taking it down to the wire on my own Hurricane: ATM I'm about to spray the colour on the underside before masking for camo pattern, (Pics soon), but I'm thinking extension may be required... any other takers?

Greetings all! A few of you enlistees are finished? Unbelievable, or maybe the rest of us picked the wrong kit? Anyway, just to prove I'm not slacking off, my Hurricane is crawling along. Many wing and fuselage seams are slowly being dealt with, a broken propeller has been repaired and the tailplane is installed. Please note, the main landing gear is temporary!

I feel your pain Russell! Considering the time it might take to get a new part from Airfix to arrive, perhaps in this case purchasing another kit for a canopy might not be a bad solution for the time being? Providing one is readily available and at an acceptable price. The second Hurricane could then patiently wait for a new canopy arrival from Airfix. Another option might be if you have available in your area Testors Clear Parts Cement & Window Maker. I've used it and it does dry clear as advertised although the separation line may still be visible. A third solution might be to use a thin CA glue to rejoin the canopy pieces and just place it on the aircraft for pictures, avoiding shots of the damage repair area until a new canopy arrives.

I feel your pain Russell! All great suggestions. Whilst not keen to buy another kit at this stage (not until the stash is back in single digits ), your suggestion to glue together the canopy and finish off the Hurricane is definitely an option to get her over the line for the campaign.

Not ideal Russ, sorry to see this snag hit your Hurricane!

Going against the grain here, I would try a very thin application of TET along the join line and hold it while it sets up. I use TET on clear parts regularly and provided you don't flood it on, it doesn't fog the parts. It will set up more quickly and be more solid than the clear parts cement, and with a bit of polishing out won't be highly visible.
Worth a try, what's to lose at this point?

I have heard back from Airfix and they're looking into whether a spare is at hand... in the meantime I'll plough on and finish the rest of the aircraft

Indeed we do Michael so that gives a few weeks to sort whether to glue, after market or wait for a spare to arrive... Either way the Hurricane will reach the front line

Looks like several folks made vacu-form canopies for various Mk I & II Hurricanes for various kits (Airfix, Revell and Hasegawa) but lots of luck finding one.

Now if you needed a Spitfire canopy, for no obvious reason, I have two of them despite having not purchased a Spitfire kit since before 1972. To be fair, Airfix did provide me one for use on their A4D-1 Skyhawk
