Welcome to the 2019 Sopwith-Hawkers-BAe Campaign! This campaign is all about the aircraft from the one of the most famous and prolific dynasty of military aircraft manufacturing in the world. The campaign will run from 1 September, 2019 through 1 March, 2020.

Nice Ribbon. Better get my but in gear I've failed on almost every campaign this year.

I like the ribbon, and I'll be building Pup in Japanese markings from 1921:

Sad to say I hit a creative block after just finishing Eduards Me-109G6. I wanted to do the new Tempest from Eduard, but that thing is too complex, its a 1/32 kit in a 1/48 box realy. I will maybe take out the Typhoon from Hasegawa from the stash, but right now I dont feel like doing anything sadly.

Understood Jacob, no worries. The campaign just started, so hopefully you'll get your mojo back. I'm still thinking strongly of doing that kit, so hopefully the mighty Tempest will still be represented.

I'm in. Can't start straight away, but I'm a sucker for Hawker Typhoon or a Hurricane

I'll be building the Harrier GR-7. Dug out the Aeroclub ejection seat and back issues of SAM (1999 and 1997) for reference and fixes to the Airfix kit.

Good choice David, I've pulled the same kit from my stash. Mine is the 2004 issue, which included an updated RAF weapons sprue and decals for a shark mouthed Harrier which saw action during Operation Telic. Most of those weapons are going straight into my spares as I have a couple of other projects in mind for those.
For the Harrier, I've found a pair of BL755's to hang under the wings. These are a little bit nicer looking than the kit supplied parts.

Paso, also can't wait to see how the Pup builds. It's a beautiful kit and one I really must start if I ever find the time.

This'll be good with the two Harriers. I'm using all the kit ordinance in the NATO green scheme. Note, the kit is missing the small door behind the nose gear, when the gear is down.

The builds will give a wide range of subjects.

Thanks for the heads up on the gear door. I hadn't noticed that in the instructions. Should be easy to make from a bit of plastic strip.

Ok so here we go, the 1/48 Car door Typhoon from Hasegawa. This one will strictly OOB with some harness and masks as the only addition. I have diverted lately from decals also for 1/48 scale but I havent found nice masks for RAF Letters, so that remains open for the moment. But roundels will be painted for sure.

Time to start a new campaign:

Holy cow. I have not built an aircraft model in decades, and I've signed up for 2 aircraft group builds in the last month!

I'll be doing something a little left field to the Hurricanes, Tempests, Harriers, etc.... The old Matchbox 1/72nd scale Bae Hawk 200 - been in the stash since about 1990...

I have my eye on Hobbyboss's 1/48. Thinking of building it in a whif scheme.

I'd like to join the fun with Arma Hobby 1:72 scale Hawker Hurricane Mk I.
Expert set I've got already includes PE sheet with cockpit & wheel bay improvements + canopy masks.
Here's the "unspoiled" shot:

I like the details and plastic structure, there's some flash visible, but it's only on "technical" parts of sprue and looks like parts won't need any additional treatment with sanding sticks.

Clear parts sprue are also very well moulded they're thin, sharp with no distortions:


PE Parts & masks:



Instruction requires some attention, pictures look good, but sometimes information placement is confusing.

Decal set printed by Techmod, thin film and also superb quality.


Original decal sheet allows to build one of 4 versions:
P3059/SD-N from 501st RAF (Sgt Antoni Glowacki)
V7234/SD-A from 501st RAF (again Sgt Glowacki - according to instructions plane on which he scored total 6 kills, 5 on one day becoming only Allied "Ace in the day" during Battle of Britain.
R4175/RF-R from 303rd Polish/RAF flown by Sgt Josef Frantisek (7 of 17 kills on this plane and died in this plane).
Hurri MkI trop 284/J from 3rd SAAF sqdn flown by Lt. Robert Kershaw (saved his commander Cpt. John Frost shot down over Diredawa).

But.. I'm tempted to use one of the other decals I have:


RF-F (mid-marking) from 303rd has a "126 Adolfs down" chalked on left side of hull comemorating total of 126 air kills achieved by 303rd during BoB.

Ok, I pushed works on Hurri from Arma Hobby a little forward. Most of the cockpit parts, wheel bay are now completed:




Some word of comments on kit itself so far:
I like the styrene "mix" used, it's stiff and quite resistant to bending and force, yet quite easy in treatment with sanding sticks and other "cleaning" tools.
I also found that sometimes some guiding pins are too thick to fit the holes and it's easier to just remove them and glue without guidance.

Now I can finally get my hands on airbrush to finalize the cockpit area and close fuselage

Well, it's pretty obvious I'm not going to get done with the huge F6F for the Grumman campaign, so I'm having a look at what I want to do for this one. It's between:

There are already a couple of Harriers in the campaign, so I'm leaning towards the Tempest. But I'm having a hard time deciding which Tempest to make, so you never know!

I think I've decided on the Tempest. Here are my start pics:





This is an interesting Royal Class boxing. No badges or placards in this one, but it does have this book by an acknowledged Tempest expert:



It's quite thick and packed with good info and pictures, including profiles:



It also includes quite an in-depth investigation of Pierre Clostermann's Tempests and concludes that "Le Grand Charles" was, in fact the one he flew From 15 April through 1 July, 1945, with 3 Sqn, serial # NV994, JFoE. I think I'll be doing that one using, in part, decals from a old Eduard Tempest boxing which has the right markings but the wrong serial number. Interestingly, another of the options on that sheet has the correct serial, so I think I'm in business without having to piece it together. I may use the codes from that sheet as well, as I like the shade of Sky they use on that old sheet better than what comes in the new kit. Guess we'll see.

Looks like an interesting project Michael, the Tempest is a cool looking airframe and I've seen some great builds of this kit. Looking forward to following your build here.
