What's the difference between the P-51B and P-51C?
Cheers,
David.

"Give that man a cigar!! "
The microphone is yours sir.

Thanks for the cigar David but... I'm a "no smoker no drinker"! I hope this will not kick me out of Armorama.com! :-) But you can pay me a Coke (not Pepsi) one day!
Here is my question!
In France we are actually voting "Oui" or "Non" for the European Constitution... so this will be an European one!
The Airbus 380 made it's maiden fly a few weeks ago and is the opponent plane of the Boeing 787 on the world market... Why are the eights so important in the designation of the two planes?
And now I'm leaving to see the results of the voting on TV!

The designation was chosen as the "8" represents the cross-section of the twin decks.
Posted: Sunday, May 29, 2005 - 11:49 AM UTC
Cool! That's one I'd never heard.
Plus ça change... I think the C-46 introduced this cross-section back in the 30s - with not an eight in sight! Those were the days! :-)

Hi all!
Andy, your answer refers only to the Airbus A380!
I need an answer for both aircrafts! There is a common reason! You must think economical and not technical!
Jean-Luc
PS: Own publicity! I posted pics of my A6M2 Zero on the aircraft forum, give it a look!

Hello Rowan!
No this is not the right answer... The number 8 is important for "psychological" reasons...
I can't tell more without giving the answer!

Hi Jean-Luc
Pheww! After much web-searching, I think I've got the answer! Apparently, the number '8' has significance in Asia, for sounding similiar to the word for 'luck'.
Any good?

Bingo Rowan!
The number 8 is very important in Asia and most of all in China! It's a "lucky" number! So it's a big commercial point for Boeing and Airbus to have an 8 in the designation numbers of their planes!
You can find more infos here:

Your turn Rowan!

Hi Jean-Luc
Not a Fokker... quite. Try Focke-Wulf and take it from there.

Hello Rowan!
It's a Focke Wulf GL 18c!
This was not an easy one!
I'll putt the Tamiya 1/48 kit of this plane on the to do pile! :-)

Spot on! Can you imagine Tamiya (or any of the "majors") doing a kit of something like this! LOL!
Your turn with a question.

Hi all!
Rowan, do you have some sort of random machine to find those weird planes? If there is something like that on the web tell me!
Well here's a new one! Just identify the plane on the picture!
There are only three pieces of the puzzle for now! If you ask for more maybe I'll put some more!
Jean-Luc
PS: It's not a Fokker or a Focke-Wulf!

Hi Jean-Luc
Nothing so sophisticated... just a bookcase groaning under the weight of too many references!
That puzzle must have taken some work! Did you do it as a template you can apply to other pics?
I think I might know the answer (a choice of two anyway...) but I'll hold off and let others have a go as more of our North American friends come online.

Hi Rowan!
Very "chevaleresque" of you to let the other guess!
I simply used a white layer over the plane picture on my paint program and took of three square pieces... I'll took of other ones when needed!
Do you really have an idea with just three pieces? Maybe you could send me a private message just to see if you're right...

Hi David!
You must have a trick (remember the "Wind Indicator")
Rowan, you knew it as well!
It seems that it's too easy for both of you! Next time I'll post a white picture!
It's your turn David!
