Hi Jean-Luc

There's only one set of Suez markings in the kit. But it's not just a question of decals - my whole aim is to try to maximize the variety of the types shown in the build. I see Frank's now talking about a Sea Hawk too - so I reckon my guardian angel's doing her best to get me off the hook as regards Suez. :-) :-)

All the best

Rowan

Hi Rowan,

If you are interested in building the Sea Hawk, by all means, go ahead..... it's my third entry choice, and by the time the first two get completed, I might, and probably will opt for an easier subject... (if I get that far!)

Does your picture [of Cpt. Paz's crashed P-51D] have a dude with a white scarf looking into the cockpit? If not, then I'd like to see that one.

I found one!

This site is packed with photos and profiles (but very little text!)

All I know is that Rowan has already invested £ 3 in his Thunderstreak!

Cheers!

Cheers Frank

But, no, I'm going to stick with my Thunderstreak now. I'm looking forward to scratchbuilding the cockpit and re-scribing the raised panel lines. Plus it'll be my first real chance to try a n/m finish properly.

Incidentally, I see the FM version includes a modified fuselage, but if the rest of the main parts are the old Heller kit, does anyone know if they've done a re-scribe?

All the best

HAH! so the iIAF sight Polar Bear keeps bringing up (wings48) isn't completely compatable with Firefox! i thought it was mostly broken or under construction! but since he was obviously finding more there than i was, i opened it with explorer, and ... behold, an untapped wealth of visual delight!

Hi All

I would like to enter a 'ground target' if that's ok?
A Foreign Legion LVT4 with a 40mm Bofors gun in the hold.

Cheers

Of course it is ok, Dus (even if the Bofors might make the skies an even more dangerous place for the rest of us)!

Speaking of Bofors - Finally a "Swedish" subject in the campaign!!! Then again, most of the Israeli P-51D's where purchased from Sweden!

I hope for more ground targets. I don't know that many AFV builders, but those who do might want to try and recruit some to this campaign! I'd love to see Israeli Shermans, Brittish Centurions and Egyptian SU-100's fighting their way through the desert heat!

Cheers!

If I go for a "grand slam" (which is an urge i'm trying to resist), then perhaps i'll do a ground target for the egyptian part of my entry.

This is a flat figure:

They are 2 dimensional figure that are engraved on slate and cast in white metal. Mine is obviously in the shape of a P-51D. Quite interesting. Scale wise it is probably somewhere between 1/72 and 1/144.

Just to inspire some of you (and perhaps myself) for some related Egyptian ground targets:

I saw these on www.militaryhobbies.com.

Sorry dude, those are post 1967 hybrids the Egyptians started to build out of their older T-34/85's, which were being replaced with T-54/T-55's.
T-34/85's and SU-100's would certainly be in the mix though. The Egyptians had other ex British armor, but I think they phased most of it out after 1948. They did still have 25 pounders, and 17 pounder Archers. Also at least one M4A2 Sherman with a French FL-10 turret which I coincidentally posted a pic of a few days ago. I suppose I MIGHT be able to get it done it time.

What I would like to know is if they had US Jeeps in '56. Photographic evidence would be great.

No worry. There's plenty of other cool armor, as PolarBear mentioned. Here's my Suez Centurion, which I unfortunately cannot enter as it's a few years old:

Accurate Armour does a great decal set for it, and surprisingly, the old Tamiya kit will be more accurate for it than the upcoming AFV Club offering.
There's a Suez M47 in my gallery as well. Again, far too old to enter, so I've decided on a plane to build.

Hi everybody.

I'm kind of new around here, but this campaign suited me perfectly since I'm building one swedish P 51 in all paint shemes she has had right now. You guys in England can see her at Duxford as "Twilight tear" now, and in Sweden she was "Gul Kalle" (Yellow Kilo) until a few years ago.

I will build a striped Grey-Blue-Brown P 51 for this, since she was painted like that at the time, but I have no idea of the numbering on this one. Some say that she was the "real" 38 in stead of the 38 that stands in Negev, but information seems a bit fuzzy about israeli machines. If anyone has an idea I'd be very happy. Her serial is 44-63864.

That looks like a really great Centurion, 18Bravo! It's a shame that you can't enter it in the campaign!

I love the fact that LongKnife underlines the Swedish heritage of the Israeli P-51D that he is going to build!

Ross! - I have to agree with Merlin. Your entry is highly orignial! I'm truly looking forward to see the final result! :-)

Note: With only one day remaining before the start of the campaign, I ask everyone to post any new comment, question, idea etc at the Official Suez Campaign Thread. Hopefully, we'll manage to keep the discussions as lively and interesting over there!!!

Cheers!

Oops. One more thing about my Mustang. It's 1:48. And if it's going to be standing, flying or what - I have no idea yet.

In addition to the 1/24 Mustang I just purchased, I have an old Testor's one with Israeli decals. I had wanted to do a scene a long time ago of it cutting telegraph line with its propeller, but I can't find a suitable motor for it.
