Hi there

Sorry - I forgot all about checking if I was right! That was a great question Fred - it certainly had me Googling through reams of stuff I'd never read before! OK - a nice easy one to get the ball rolling again:

What was the nickname given to the bombsights used by the Doolittle Raiders?

All the best

The Norden was replaced with a make-shift sight nick-named the "Mark Twain". The Norden was deemed too secret to be allowed to fall into Japanese hands at that time.

What aircraft was demostrated as a high altitude interceptor in the early 1960's by shooting down a drone from the distance of approximately 80 miles?

Judging from the color it is American. Only a guess, the bomb bay of a B-25?

Hi Fred

A B-52? If that's right, Gábor should have the next question because I hadn't a clue! (I'd been wading through B-26 and Ventura walkarounds...) :-)

Wow, thank you gentlemen. I have always thought BUFFs and other modern bombers were painted zinc yellow instead of green.

OK, an easy one, name the plane!

Hi Gábor

It looks like the Heinkel He 162's ejection seat, but I haven't seen the extra harness in other pics.

All the best

Wow, I hoped it would take longer than 32 minutes.

Indeed it belongs to the He-162 Salamander.
The picture is from www.ejectionsite.com.

Rowan, give us something obscure & British!

Hi Gábor

Well, it was the arm-rests that made me think of the Heinkel seat, but I must admit the webbing put a doubt in my mind - and then, when Fred said MiG-15, I really thought he might be right. Good job I stuck to my first hunch!

Hi there

Well, you did ask for it! :-)

OK - Clue #1... it was 1926 and the aircraft was tested as a deck-landing fleet spotter.

So, does anyone need another clue, or are you all just deciding who'll post the answer? :-)

Hmm, I guess we need a clue.

Otherwise I think I am rather good in googling up things, but this one proved to be too difficult to find.

Hi Gábor

Try combining a town Lancashire with an English breed of dog.

All the best
