after looking at my unbuilt huey collection...I see the finest detailing by manufacturer easily goes to MRC with their C model gunships in 1/35....
I have build this one some years back. It is a really nice model, but there are / were some serious fit problems with the fuselage. Normally it would not be too difficult to fill and sand, but because of the rivet it becomes a problem.
Other than that one I have not build any other UH-1s

HI All.
Slowly getting there with the Bird Dog.
So far this week I seem to have done nothing but fill and sand,,sand and fill. The underwing sections were a terrible fit and Im only now getting to the stage where Im happy with them. I still need to fill the small gap where the horizontal stabiliser meets the fusalage. There are sink marks everywhere and I ended up having to sand away all the ribbing on the elevators and rescribe that.
Slightly more worrying are the sink marks on the wing struts that Ive started cleaning up today,as the parts are so thin, and I'll have to go carefully there to avoid breaking them. But after thats done and the undercarriage is attached I can get the "Dawg" sprayed up and finished.
I keep being reminded that this kit is well over 30 years old, but I cant wait to get it finished and move on my next project which is Tamiya,,oh joy oh joy!!
Oh yeah,,,a couple of pics...

Hi Nige

Looking forward to see more.
And more you shall see!
The "Dawg" is assembled now apart from the wheels and propeller. I primed everything tonight and tomorrow I'll be doing the last bits of sanding and a general tidy up before I start painting. Still some cleaning up to do on the underwing struts, but they are so much better now than when I started.
How did we ever model in the 1970's. There were sink marks everywhere on this kit! Was it just acceptable back then? Did we just assemble the parts as they came?
Anyway,,moving on 34 years,,LOL,,,its finally coming together and should be painted over the weekend.Fingers crossed the decals dont give me too many problems
Note all the debris from this weeks sanding exploits. I think by the time Ive finished this Bird Dog is going to be 1:75 scale!

Yeah!
Trying to get my Bird Dog will be like trying to swat a fly while wearing a blindfold!
Klear coats are on and I'll be decalling tomorrow night. Should be finished Wed or Thurs.

After 24 hours for the Klear to cure the decals are now on the Bird Dog.
For decals of their age they went on very well. A bit on the thick side and took a long time to float free from the backing but they are settling down nicely after a couple of coats of Microsol.
Next step will be to give it another couple of coats of Klear and then its almost done.

Looks great Nigel!
As for my lil' F-5.........
This is the worst kit I've ever tried to build. Nothing, and I mean nothing goes together the right way. I've gone through a complete set of Tamiya sanding sticks on this one kit alone. I've also built 1 and 1/2 helicopter kits and 1 Stuka in the time it has taken me to get my F-5 into primer. That said, I am rather pleased at the results so far. So, here is where she stands as of now. I hope to have some 3 color camo on possibly by the weekend.
Thanks for looking guys!

Hi Hermon!
Your F-5 is looking the business!
Those sanding sticks didnt die in vain :-)
In the UK we have lots of shops selling cheap goods,"Poundland" for example.Im sure you'll have something similar in the USA.
I pick up packs of different size nail files, about 30 for £1 and use those for the majority of seam work and sanding, then I finish off with fine grades of "wet and dry". A lot cheaper than bulk buying Tamiya sanding sticks.
Looking forward to seeing your F-5 get its camo!

BirdieDog looking good!
F-5 getting close!! I notice the wing-tanks have employed the coke-bottle effect for aero dynamics...just like the fuselage...
dad pointed that out to me years ago regarding the f-105 Thud...something about going fast....heheheheh
good modeling!

@Nige: looks great. Very colourful markings. Great
@Hermon: Looks really good. Looks forward to see more. If it is anything close to your Stuka it will probably get its own feature.
@Bounche: great to have you onboard. Looking forward to see things progress with your Huey. I hope you are not planning to use the hammer for construction
