No, Germany didn't fly intruder missions until late. It was believed that the nachtjager should be seen defending German cities. Also, these early night fighting aircraft carried an infra red searchlight of dubious value. It is written in a book that I used to have that they suffered higher losses from friendly flak.

Hi Gary According to my references the Luftwaffe flew intruder missions from quite early on, and the failure to continue them into the last years of the war is often cited as a blunder. The Spanner-Anlage system proved to be of very limited value, though, as it was very unreliable and could not differentiate between friend and foe. I have read some first hand accounts on German early war intruder missions. They also carried limited bomb loads. Very limited in scope but very successful. However, since the claims were over enemy territory they could not be verified and led to the missions generally being viewed as unsuccessful by German command. Had the missions been stepped up and continued it would have been much more difficult and costly for Britain to build up bomber command.

Great to see this kit out. As I recall there are also some cool camo schemes for this one, but I might recall wrongly. Any insights on markings and camo schemes included in the kit?

I hope the early bomber versions will be released sooner or later, then we could finally get a Legion Condor bomber in 1/48 (not counting Hobbycraft)
