Hi all!

Not much activity here latley!

Now I have made some progress with the little MB.

Cockpit Is completed, painted, worn and "washed";

Yes, I have made a small piece of plasticard to cover the hole in the headrest!

The location for the cockpit tub in the fuselage side was poor to say It kindly!
I had to make a good "educated" guess, but had to support it from underneath anyway;

A large fishing weight was placed in the nose secton, as this Is a dead sure tailsitter and needs much weight to keep the nosewheel on the ground!

Fuselage halves fitted very good and lined up perfectly with the cockpit back bulkhead.

I had test-fitted the wing-to-fuselage joint earlier, and the fit here was very good then, but now I got this;

Oooops....
The wing assembly would not go down as the cockpit tub was too deep!

The solution was as easy as It was brutal, I sawed off a 2x2mm section from the rear bottom end of the cockpit tub. (Can´t be seen from the inside anyway!)
Now the fit was much, much better!

Nigh on perfect!

The tailplanes went on a snap, perfect fit here.

Even if this kit looked simple first, It keeps you on your toes!
Looks can be very decieving!

Cheers!

Hello Everyone,

JESPER - I'm beginning to think your Chinook has the beginnings of a "Quest" not just a model Here is some color plates from the May 2007 issue of Model Aircraft. There was at least three EJERCITO Chinooks on the island at some point. Actually the British and Argentines deployed several of the same aircraft during the war. Examples include the Chinooks and also Sea Kings and Westland Lynx.

STEFAN - Nice to see your build going along even with a small hiccup or two. That fishing weight could not have been shaped better to fit!

I'm kinda stuck in limbo on my S2F Tracker, waiting on decals for it to arrive.

Sincerely,
Brian

Stefan, your MB looks great so far. I think your brutal surgical skills saved you from an otherwise almost infixable problem.
Looking forward to see more.

Brian, thanks for the colour plates. There are some cool camouflage schemes there. I think I will do a little research on how to change the Italeri CH-47C to an Argentine C version. I am not an expert on helicopters at all, so it will be interesting to see how long internet research can take me.
Also - does anybody have some sources for Argentine CH-47 markings?

Brian, you're right. This will be a challenge for me so sort of a quest

3 MONTH WARNING ! Thats how much longer we have. I know it seems far off but with Thanksgiving, Christmas and News Years coming up three months will go quickly ! Don't get caught in the last minute rush (Unless you like to abuse yourself ) I really am looking forward to seeing eveyones efforts. If anyone would like to jump in and join our conflict please feel free to do so.

So far Jesper and myself have completed models and I am moving forward with three more at this moment, well maybe two, one is in limbo due to a decal issue. So here they are as of today.

The Grumman Tracker I posted earlier and I'm still waiting for the decals. The North American Distributor after more than a month has yet to even acknowlege the order
The other kits are the Academy Super Etendard and PM Models Dagger. I do have the decals for those from an older Superscale sheet so I will continue to move forward with them. Since the time is about right for me I'm going to start up the history timeline of the air war, more to come soon.

Sincerely,
Brian

Hello Everyone,

I'm starting the timeline of events related to the Air War. So we start with not the Falklands but the Sandwich Islands two or three days travel by ship farther South.

March 31st
The first combat between British and Argentine forces occurred at South Georgia Island at a former whaling station. “HMS Endurance” was delivering a detachment of Royal Marines protect the island and civilians from expected Argentine attack. After dropping off the Marines, HMS Endurance (actually an Ice Breaker) left for Port Stanley while the Marines prepared defensive positions.

April 3rd
Argentine ships carrying troops and helicopters appeared at the bay in front of whaling station of Grytviken. After the British refused to surrender the Argentines sent their helicopters to recon (Alouette) and land troops (Puma) near Grytviken. On the second troop-carrying sortie the Puma was shot down by small arms fire and crashed on a hillside outside of Grytviken with several Marines killed. The Allouette was also slightly damaged by small arms but took over the transport role of the destroyed Puma.

Argentine Puma remains South Georgia 2003.

With the Puma destroyed the Frigate “Guerrico” came well into Cumberland Bay and attacked the British positions but had to turn around after being pummeled with small arms and recoilless anti-tank gun fire. The Guerrico then out of range of the British fired her 100mm gun keeping the British Marines pinned down while Argentine Marines advanced from around the bay. Later in the day cutoff from outside help with one seriously injured Marine the small British detachment surrendered.

ARA Guerrico

The first air combat of the War started not with jets but helicopters and the Argentines losing one “Puma”

Interesting to hear some stories from the conflict, Brian

How does the PM Dagger build up? I considered buying it, but after having seen the parts it looked below average. Have yo added some extra details?

I am still considering when to start on my Chinook. Right now I am not feeling like starting it, so I will wait until I am top motivated. Otherwise it will be rushed and the result will be thereafter.

How is everybody else doing?

Hello Jesper,

The PM Models Dagger is below par. The parts line up okay but the detail is soft and some parts like the bomb and its rack are almost blocky in appearance. I substituted the Bombs and rack from the ESCI Skyhawk I built. The directions are vague in parts placement and in some pictures it shows parts options for either the Mirage or Dagger that do not even come in the kit (or should have they?).

The canopy is going to need some work to fit properly. The worse is the intake tunnels do not exist in any form beyond the intakes themselves and I should have built some out of plastic stock but I did not. The decals of course are not to good either. I deceided to rescribe the model since the panel lines are not very involved and I think this will improve the appearance. That said I believe with some care and a decent paint job the model will look good, not award winning in any way but good next to the Skyhawk I built (as long as you don't look in the intakes).

The Super Etendard is nice and went together well. Directions were a little vague on this one but all the parts were there. I look forward to painting and decaling this one. As for the Tracker I really want to finish this and I think it will be nice addition but I'm frustrated to all ends with the distributor for Aerocalas Decals in North America. Its been over one month and they have yet to even acknowledge the order. I guess they don't care to sell the product line even when its listed as in stock.

I look forward to your Chinook when you "Get in the Mood" I hope that with some campaigns concluded now that others will step up and start there builds. The "Falklands" is probably the last of the Empire Colonial Wars.

Sincerely,
Brian

Hello Everyone,

I made a table, chart or whatever you call it with people who are building for the Campaign. Feet Wet means "It's being built" Feet Dry means "Completed" I will refine this more as time permits but for now its better than nothing. If I missed anybody let me know. Also if anyone would like to join our Campaign please feel free to do so. It would be nice to see more Helicopters being built as well.

Sincerely,
Brian

Great table, Bryan

I think it was a good idea to go for the Chinook instead of the Dagger from PM.It does not seem like PM is my kind of company since I am mostly an OOB builder.

Hi all!

Just a short update on the little Macchi!

I have done all assembly and masked it up, so now she´s ready for the spray booth!

Soon she will change from this horrible orange to a more modest Sand and Tan over Grey.

Cheers!

Greetings all,

This is my Tamiya 1/48 Sea Harrier. The fuselauge and wings are painted, so now I need to do some putty work. The model is an aircraft that flew from the HMS Hermes and is painted in "Barley Grey". The fit of this model has been good except for the fan cover on the top. Hope to get more done soon.

Hello Everyone,

Stefan and Bryan,

Glad to see your models coming along. Stefan, I can't wait to see the Orange gone and to Bryan4010 he is making nice progress on the Harrier. Just in case any of you think that kitchen table looks familiar That's because it's mine.
I have know Bryan for many many years and after some prodding he made the jump from automobile models to aircraft about two years ago. This Harrier is his second aircraft model, the first was a Hobbycraft F4U-1 Corsair (He even has a few armor kits now stashed away ) I persuaded him (Without breaking his arm I might add) to join Aeroscale and participate in our activities. You may even see our builds together in the near future. So welcome to Aeroscale Bryan.

The list has been updated.

Sincerely,
Brian

Hello everyone,

Happy Thanksgiving, I stayed up after the family went to sleep and I decided to tackle the Grumman Tracker. I still have not word on decals from the retailer so I'm taking matters into my own hands. I'm going to mix and mingle several items to create (hopefully) the markings. I applied some primer over the spots that needed sanding and then preshaded the model. I then painted the low visibility scheme (Light Ghost Grey underside & Dark Grey (F-15) these were the colors referenced in the Model Aircraft Monthly issue about the Falklands. This will be easier to decal as well since the markings were fewer.

The two following pictures were added this morning (11-23-07).

Sincerely,
Brian

Hello Everyone,

I made some additional progress on the Armada Tracker. I masked and airbrushed the fin/tail colors using Insignia White and Turquoise. As far as the markings go I scrounged my stuff and found combination of dry transfers and decals that should allow me to finish the kit soon.

Brian

Hi all!

I have the camouflage colors on the Macchi now, and It looks really good!

But unfortunatley, I can´t show any pics of this model, or ANY other model for that matter!

My picture-host have re-organized the site and all old links are now defunct!
This affects ALL of my pics I have posted here on these forums since I joined Aeroscale (except those uploaded to the gallery on kitmaker).

I don´t know when I can post pics again!
But You can be assured that I´m desperatley searching for a new host at the moment!

This Is very annoying to me and to all who want to see my pics.

Cheers!

Hello Everyone,

I addition to the other builds, I am still going to town on the Argentine Grumman Tracker. I added the Antenna masts that the kit lacked and I added bomb shackles with scrap plastic to the crude kit bomb racks. I’m close to applying a gloss coat and then decals/dry transfers. How are the rest of you doing?

Sincerely,
Brian

Hello Jesper,

Thank you for the encouragement ! I just hope the liquid masking I applied to the canopy comes off without any hitches! The dry transfers for the small numbers and letters look okay but what an effort in patience (frustration) they require. The anchors and large numbers are from an old Superscale sheet.

I would like to apply a flat coat on Thursday to seal them and follow with a wash although there is not much to view panel wise even on the real aircraft they seem to be pretty clean. Are you going to tackle the Chinook or hold off?

Sincerely,
Brian

Hi All

Hope it's ok, but i've changed what i'm building - going for a 72 Scale Italieri Sea Harrier as follows.

The Victor/Vulcan Combo may also get built, time and work pressures permitting.
