Hello Guys,

Steffen,

Due to several other members builds still in progress I’m going to extend the Campaign to Saturday February 16th. After that we will wrap it up no matter what. I hope this may help you and the others out.

Jesper,

I took some more photos of the damage and these are a little better quality. I guess it would be better to say the paint wrinkled and cracked verses peeled. The decals fogged up and are no good now. I do have another set on a Superscale Sheet that I could try to use. Funny thing is the White underside only spotted in two small places (that border the Blue) and that can be sanded and touched up. I now wonder if the Blue paint is the problem not the gloss coat?

Sincerely,
Brian

Well, the blue paint does seem to show some wrinkles. The biggest problem here seems to be the decals. I agree with you that they have fogged up badly.

Have you tried to soak them in Micro sol to lift them of the aircraft and "reapply" them with a moist tissue? Otherwise you might be able the settle them by running some mat varnish under them and then carefully smoothen them with a paintbrush. It is difficult and only works half the times, but if the alternative is to strip all the paint it could be worth a try.

Hope you find a solution

Time for an update.
This is the Airfix 1/72nd Avro Vulcan B.2. Problems with the fit are numerous and this has been put aside on more then one occasion so far . Cockpit detail is very sparse, but as you cant see anything through the small windows, its a bit pointless adding to it.
As you can see the wings don't line up at all which is why its has about a ton of filler on it.
Once I have leveled the wings the rest of the build should go fairly quickly (he says hopefully ).
Oh well back to sanding .

Hello Everyone,

Andy,

I'm glad to see your Vulcan moving along even with the copius amount of filler. What a great addition to the Campaign!

Now Super Etendard Adventures part "Something" DESPERATE TIMES CALL FOR DESPERATE MEASURES! On an intercept course with a bottle of MOTSENBOCKERS LIFT OFF #4 (This stuff really works!) destiny has been set in motion.......................................

This real life event sums up my frustration with the kit at this time.

Hi Brian!

One of my favourite strips, all times!

Our cats are named after this comic too, Kalle (Calvin) and Hobbe (Hobbes)!

Sad about your Etendard, It looked really fine until the "disaster" struck.

I have had similar experiences, and there must not be any fault in any of the paints, but they just don´t work together.

A few weeks ago I ditched a Airfix BaE Hawk where the clear coat caused the paint to crack and believe me, your model looked perfect compared to what I had on the Hawk!
I decided It was a hopless case and robbed the excellent Neomega seats I had used, now I can use one in my Sea Harrier!

Hope you can get a better finish next time!

Thanks for the extension, perhaps I can get my Sea Harrier done in time.

It will be the all Dark Sea Grey machine 000/XZ455, from Cmdr. Sharkey´s 801st Sqn.
This Sea Harrier had two Etendards shot down, so you better watch out!

I´m progessing rapidly with the Harrier, pics coming soon!

Cheers!

Hi All

Latest Progress pics, well on course for finishing before the extension starts. It'll be the first where i have, if i do

801 Sqn, HMS Invincible 1982. I've tried to replicate the slightly lighter under colour, but this does not show in the photos.

Hello everyone,

Stefan, glad the extra time will help you. A 1/48th harrier would be welcome indeed.

Andy, You had some amazing builds of late but my favorite will be the "Harrier"

Keep up the pace everyone things are looking good.

Brian

Ah! I have this same cartoon in my file of "Pieces of paper never to be thrown out." I guess it strikes all modellers that way.

Brian

Thanks for the kind words, i can always find fault in what i've done, but i suppose if i was perfect, the fun would have gone out of modeling.

Finished Photos as promised. Thanks for a great campaign.

Hello everyone,

BIGSKIP WAY TO GO ! Another SHAR for the group ! Don't forget to add pictures to our official gallery in the photo's section of Kitmaker Network (Which is apparently down at the moment). Here is the Operational status report. I hope to change it further before the February 16th deadline. Keep up the good work !

Sincerely,
Brian

Funny cartoon, Brian. In Denmark they are called Steen (Calvin) and Stoffer (Hobbes). Definently one of the better cartoons series.
Good to hear morale is still high and that you are starting all over again. It would be too bad if no Etandard was in the campaign since they played such a prominent role.

Andy, nice harrier. You want to be my wingman? Then we can go hunting some Skyhawks

Hi All

I tried to post two times yesterday, but my computer went in a stall both times. So the story again ... short

I lost the instrument panel of my kit when I took it with me in the hotel room to progress a bit. I do not know how I lost it (I think it is impossible) but still it is not there.

So I am out.

maybe I can get a replacement from NeOmega, but this will surely take time (if I get it).

meanwhile have fun with this campaign and congrats to all who will finish it!!!

best wishes

Steffen

You are really unlucky with your builds right now

Hi all!

My Sea Harrier is taking shape now, I have added the Paragon sets to the Airfix kit now.
Everything fitted perfectly, just some careful sanding was needed.

Here she Is, the resin bits are cream-colored.

The new Intakes was worth the price alone!

Those small intake scopes was not even included in the Airfix kit!

Now it´s off to the paint shop!

Andy & Jesper; You can BOTH be MY wingmen when we go hunting for some Daggers and Skyhawks!

More to come...

Cheers!

Looks good. What scale is this? Sorry if you have already written it somewhere in this tread.

Looking forward to see more

Hello everyone,

Stefan - The resin updates really help out your SHAR. I am really looking forward to its completion!

Bryan4010 - had a minor setback, while working on the model in his garage he place the tail planes to close to the propane heater keeping the garage warm and curled them. Fortunately he caught it in time and was able to flatten them out. The ends were rounded but a little work with sanding sticks and hobby knife got the right angles back without messing up the appearance. He should have pictures for us soon.

As for myself I am grounded. My Azteck A470 has gone "Kapute" The patterns while painting the P-39 for the "Rumble" were difficult but just deteriorated on my F6F Hellcat for the "Riverine build" and I have no control of it (I am now wondering if this was the problem with paint on the Super Etendard) no matter what air pressure, paint/thinner ratio or nozzle tip I use. Air is now leaking from the trigger assembly as well. I guess this is to be expected after 14 years of use. I should invest in an additional airbrush as a backup I suppose. So until I get another airbrush and/or get this one repaired by Testors all my projects are on hold. "What a Bummer"

I still look forward to all of your models being completed soon. We have 10 days left !

Sincerely,
Brian

Hello everyone,

How are you doing? I hope we have some more finished entries by midnight Saturday.
Andy, I really would like to see that Vulcan in the finished gallery. Stefan, how is your SHAR going?
I’m up and running again with another airbrush. The Super Etendard still needs some more work before I can start painting again. I decided give that Argentine Dagger a chance. Here is the paint job as tonight.

Reminder deadline is midnight the 16th!! The pressure is on!!

Sincerely,
Brian

Your wish is my command .
Airfix 1/72nd Avro Vulcan B.2.
Painted with Xtracrylix's paints.
Sure glad this build is done. I can't remember the amount of times I lost interest in it, due to the poor fit. Still not perfect, but frankly I'm just glad its done. If I never see another Airfix Vulcan as long as I live it will be too soon .
Andy

Its off to the Mother In Laws now (she has a thing for the Vulcan), so I'll will never have to see it again .

Jeeeeeezzzz!!!

I´m feeling the pressure!

Andy, nice Vulcan!
This is an aircraft i would like to build, but It´s not available in 1/48 yet!
But there will be a 1/32 kit soon from Heritage Aviation!
I think I´ll wait for the 1/144 kit somewhere in the future!

Brian, Nice save on the Etendard!
Looks like it can be a winner when finished!

My Sea Harrier is coming along, I have got the Dark Sea Grey on.

Funny how the dark grey color can change the look of the aircraft!
Now she looks really sinister and dangerous, no wonder they were called the "Muerte Negras" by the Argies.

As you can see, I missed a few spots, but that is taken care of now.

Next step Is the gloss coat and get ready for decals!

Cheers!

Thanks guys.
New tool V bombers would be nice in 1/72nd or 1/48th.
I see the Heritage Aviation Vulcan at Telford model show, and all I can say about it is err, its big, very big, actually really stupid big but i suppose you could use it as a coffee table .
Great entries guys. I now believe we out number the Argentinians by quite a few aircraft now .

Hi Brian, I can see the ribbons have already been awarded.

Thanks a lot for a very good and entertaining campaign! It has been what a campaign is all about motivation, fun and sharing ones work with others.

Thank you for your time and effort
