I found out the lady who owns the par 3 golf course here had a husband (now deceased) who flew as the tail gunner on a B-17 in the 401st Bombardment Group. His aircraft was named Boche Buster, then changed to Heaven Can Wait. I told her I would build that one when we get this campaign off the ground. Lap Man is building a B-17 over on the Battle for Europe campaign if anybody is interested. It looks really good so far.

Hi Carl,
I have the 1/48th Monogram B-17 in the stash with a tiny bit of work done on it. Could I enter it in this campaign as it would be a great incentive to get it done. Please...

I was wondering if this campaign could be offset from the Butcher Bird and P-47 campaigns since I'm sure several people will enlist in those or lengthen it to a 12 month build since there will be a lot of potential 1/48 bombers being built?? I suppose if it runs at the same time as the other campaigns (with a 6 month build time) I will have to make a decision since my build time is limited unfortunately. I would love to join this campaign but probably wouldnt be able to do so because I will be participating in the butcher bird campaign. Maybe the butcher bird campaign could be shortened to 6 months instead of 12 and this one could be extended to 12 months? (I think i read on the campaign page that the 190 build was 12 months long--i might be wrong)

I know that the P-47 build was planned to be a 12 month Campaign and some suggestions were put forward to have the FW190 campaign to run along side it which would make that a 12 month campaign as well.
I was planning on building either the 1/72 Hasegawa B-17G in or the Academy 1/72 B-17F "Memphis Belle" with the Legends detail set and Legends Figure set. I have to admit if I go for the second option it might take me a while to do.

Since the Ryder cup is being held about 15 minutes from my house, I will be watching it very closely. The guys I am rooting for (the ones with the bigger balls, I mean golfballs) will probably end up on the losing side.
Your B-17 will be most welcome as long as it isn't too far along.
I put the Butcherbird in for six months, January 1 - June 30, since the campaign guidelines call for not more than six months. That will probably be extended to July 31, since it is SOP to allow the stragglers to finish. I will probably start this one in about March or April and run it for six -12 months, since it will have many, many, many big bombers. It is also a little bit overwhelming leading two campaigns at one time. This one will make three at the same time for me.
Remember the first bombing missions by the Mighty Eighth were flown in Bostons. I really hope to see a few of them fly in for this one. Of course, the little friends will be well represented also.

Hi Carl,
15 mins from your house, damn!! I'd be there every day !!
Hardly any work on the B-17, just a few cockpit parts put together and the ball turrent but no paint. I started it three years ago before I knew what I was doing! I will need to rip the ball apart anyway to get some detail there.

Well, 20 minutes if the traffic is bad.
We look forward to you finishing the B-17 for the campaign.
I will be submitting the campaign on about Wednesday of next week.

Dont forget there is also a dedicated Thunderbolt group build running throughout 2009.
The Mighty Eighth campaign will probably start mid-late 2009.

Ok just to get the juices flowing, I've done my research on the 1/144 B-24 as it gives no unit info and after a long search I'm happy.
Kit decals are for 'Rage in Heaven' 852nd BS, 95th BW, 491st BG, 8th AF, used as an assemble ship and crashed 5th Jan 1945 on take off killing all on board.
Happier times.

Just got Academy Old Crow P-51B (Malcolm Hood) in 1/72 from ebay for £4 for this and an academy 1/72 airacobra. Bargain!
A rebuild of old crow was in FlyPast this month too. Is a nice kit looking from the box and I've not built an Academy kit before looking forward to this.

While on vacation, I was able to stop in the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Savanah Georgia. It is a great little museum if you are ever in the neighborhood.

We have a lot of interest in this one, but because of an ongoing bout with the flu, family comitmets, and trying to catch up on my ongoing builds, I have not submitted it yet. But I will get it written up and submitted real soon. As it stands now, I am spreading myself thin, as leader of the Speed, Butcherbird, Battle for Europe, Twin Spinner, and Mighty Eighth Campaigns.
Did anybody notice that Hasegawa will be releasing "The Dragon and His Tail" in 1/48th? At least that is what Great Models has listed. Might it be a typo on the scale?

..it's a lovely kit. Have built it four or five times. Two things; the decals that everyone seems to hate (PVA & Klear will deal with them) ..and the canopy doesn't fit at all (not wide enough). Luckily you get the option of displaying it open..

I think you are right. It wouldn't be the first time they got the scale wrong on a kit I really, really want.

I have been remiss in submitting this one, due to overload on completing campaigns. But on the bright side, I now have 3 1/48 B-17s sitting in the closet. So the motivation is still there. I promise to work on the write-up this weekend.
