Hi team
I've managed to complete a build for a campaign!!!!
My P-51 "TORCHY" was the ride of Flt Off. Harley E Berndt of the 359th fighter group based at East Wretham in march 1945
It was washed with pro modeller washes, and dusted with mig pigs and some snj powder.
I made a few mistakes on this build (my 1st wingie thingie for a long time!!) but I will improve.
Sorry the pics are poor ,must crack on with my Wingnut Wings LVG(lot of strings and stuff)
Thanks for looking
Andy

Nice Torchy, Torchy.
The metal finish turned out great, that alclad right? what bits are pooh? the camera is kind to you then
I'm suprised at the lack of traffic on the Mighty Eighth campaign you would've thought it would be really popular.
Is there a ribbon designed?

every pic I've seen has it!,also it shows an aerial 190 style, but I can't find any pics of it,so it 's not getting one!!!
..you mean profile artwork, presumably. Profile artists love depicting 8th AF P-51s with aerials. Nige was spot on, 8th AF P-51s in Europe didn't need an aerial because of the relatively short distances involved and weren't fitted with them.
...nice work Andy !
..got six days at home just before Xmas to start and finish my campaign entry !

Great build Andy. Aren't you glad Mustangs have no rigging?
The ribbon is posted on the sign up page. It has been there since the campaign was approved.

..wasn't sure what I was going to do for this campaign and as I still hadn't started anything going into the final weeks I grabbed this Revell 72nd P-47 from the pile on Sunday for another 56th FG machine..thought I'd try one of those neat looking 63FS T-bolts in blue that Lampie built this time last year..
Cockpit straight OOB with (champagne bottle) foil belts....
..think I've built this kit three or four times this year...
..the only real 'problem' area with the Revell kit is the gear which sits perpendicular to the wing; looks much better raked forward a little as here - rather than pinning the legs as I've done before, much easier to cobble together a new 'mount' using a couple of discarded prop 'discs'
started painting today ...note the 'scrap' AFV which I use for getting the airbrush settings just so..freehand for a bit of a 'ragged' look ...(well, that's my excuse..)
colours are pretty approximate, some RLM 76 hellblau suitably doctored and some Flanker blue from Xtracolour - the rudder needs a third blue - haven't settled on one yet. Looks like this will be finished as Charles McBath's 'Dottie Dee' (right)
..I'm quite happy with that for four days work ..should get this finished now !

Back at the bench after a long old slog around Europe for the last couple of months!
Time to get stuck into finishing up "Tony".
Most of the airframe has been Kleared and I've just finished spraying the very distinctive 5th ERS unit colours on the cowling. My Miracle Masks arrived for this yesterday and hopefully I can get the markings sprayed on over the next few days.
Meanwhile Ive got the engine together and made a start on the other various bits and pieces.
Make the most of it, "Tony" isnt going to look this clean and shiny for much longer!

yes, very nice indeed Nige...must try one of these larger T-bolts some time..
meanwhile back in 72nd scale, after a protracted battle with the kit decals which refused to settle down I finally whipped them with a coat of white glue and several coats of Future/Klear. Although I still need to do the prop tips and a flat coat..I'm declaring this one finished...

Lovely job Neil. Thats one of my favourite P-47 colour schemes.
I think youve built more T'bolts than me this year!
A bit more of my normal slow progress.
National markings and squadron codes painted using Miracle Masks.
Just the area around the intercooler doors to finish after another couple of coats of Klear in that area, and I'm working my way through painting the various bits and pieces.
The dinghy pack attachment caused a bit of head scratching but fixing a small pin to the pylons has done the trick.
Its starting to look quite colourfull, even before the yellow bands get added around the empennage and wingtips.
I seriously doubt this is going to be finished before the deadline. Any chance of an extension?

Extensions anyone?
I will offer un-oficcial extensions. Just post your pics and PM me when you are finished. I will award ribbons when you finish. This way, everybody gets their ribbon without waiting.
btw. I am about ready to seal the fuselage on my B-17.
Happy new year.

Thanks for the extra time Carl
The main decals are now on, and if the weather stays this rubbish I'll get the stencils on tomorrow as well.
Andy, all being well I'll be at MK for sure

This is as far as I got before the clock struck 12 and the campaign officially finished. ( well, about 9 actually as I headed out to see the New Year in at friends.
Still left to do is the underside stencil decals, Klear, washes, weathering and varnish. Couple of bits and pieces to finish painting and then its all done.

I realise that this is 7days late, and I certainly dont expect a ribbon at all, but this was going to be my entry which was actually finished before the closing date but just ran out of time putting the photos on here. Actually my REAL entry was going to be the Memphis Belle but didnt get a chance to get started on her with every thing that was happening before christmas. This is an old Monogram 1/72 kit which I picked up very cheap and shows in the end result. Was just a very quick build.

The 91st BG were based at Bassinbourn, and was the home of the Memphis Belle.
The Belle was actualy the 2nd B-17 to complete 25 missions. Bonus points for anyone who knows which one was first.
Bassingbourn today is an army barracks, and although there is a museum there its only open on Sundays, and I havent been able to visit yet.
However, in Bassingbourn village you'll find evidence of the villages history if you look closely.
