Panzerschreck I. German anti-tank rockets on a Fw 190 F-8 (I think).

Great, been wanting to post this ever since I found it. What is this pretty little aircraft:

That's the Folland Fo.108 (or Frightful!), testing the Napier Sabre.

Yes, a hideous plane. Over to you Sean.
Posted: Saturday, September 25, 2010 - 04:25 AM UTC
Right then ... what's the world's only jet-engined biplane? And, for a bonus point, what's its connection with toilets?
Posted: Saturday, September 25, 2010 - 06:53 AM UTC
Hi Sean
I think it was the Coandă-1910 - and the Coandă effect is apparently used in the design of urinals to (hopefully! ) avoid "splashback". Now why didn't they teach us physics like that at school?!

That's a very fine answer, but as the engine in question wasn't a jet*, it's not the answer we're looking for, I'm afraid. And I'm not sure that's strictly an application of the Coandă effect, either (or are you just taking the ... ?). The flaps on a C-17 are, though.
* an externally driven turbine doesn't count, or superchargers would be jet engines!

Hi Sean
Well, I was never any good at physics, but here's the patent for the "Coandă effect" urinal: http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20100095445. It's all to do with angles, apparently...

I think that this bi-plane is the M15 "Belphegor", but I have no idea about its connnection to the toilet.
P.S. I think I know what Sean means by this connection: vertical containers for the chamicals are beaing empitied in the similar way to sluiing down the toilet

That's not fair, you're Polish!
Yes, that's the chap - for my money the ugliest, most misbegotten object ever to get daylight under its wheels, and that includes any Farman bomber. For the toilet connection, just Google "Belphegor demon" and see what comes up. One image was used by a French company in an advert for its sanitary ware.

Do you think that asking questions about some forgotten places on the north-eastern cost of Scotland where a Seafury fired few shots having so many Brittons around is fair? Just poking... But seriously till your question I thought that M15 was the only jet biplane ever constructed. It's quite easy to remember because M15 stands almost next to the biggest hangar in the Aviation Museum in Krakow. I agree it's ugly, but when you walk around its construction gets interesting.
From Wikipedia: "In demonology, Belphegor (or Beelphegor) is a demon who helps people to make discoveries."
That's pretty obvious, because toilet is the best place for thinking and where best ideas comes to your head!

OMG!! MY EYES!!! I can't see anymore.. That is one of the ugliest planes ever.. You realise that it doesn't rely on the physics of air-flow over the wig to get it off the ground? EVen the Earth itself thinks it is extremely ugly and it repels it....

Ugly is as Ugly does...
I vote for the "Earth repels it" theory.

You're correct with the foot size but could you be more specific with the type and the serial number?

Looks kind of like a Sharov or a Breiev.... Am I close?

Hi Michal
I think its a Beriev KOR-2 (later designated the Be-4). I don't know the serial number, and I was way off on the shoe-size - I thought it was only a size 10!

I had no idea what it was, but MAN I wouldn't want a radial that BIG sitting that close to my head !!

I think I got it, but don't want to publish my answer yet - I sent it to Rowan by PM.
